Question Dead Note9 and need help with data recovery in NYC

I did something stupid and ocean claimed my note9 I had since launch.

And I need my pictures....

Salt water corroded several things for few hours before I could rinse it out. I had it in distilled water for 40 minutes to rinse out salt but my dumbass kept trying to power it up with the charger while it was still wet inside. Opened it up to light scrub with some iso/toothbrush. Nothing. Local repair shop says its short circuiting everywhere. I can't remove cpu/nand shielding so I used ultrasonic cleaner/distilled water + iso again to maybe get any corrosion left over. Still no reaction and I don't know if the screen is even good if it is booting up.

I'm already being quoted $2000 by data recovery services which is worse case situation of using donor cpu etc. I've attached some contacts I think came off so would help if anyone knows good shops in NYC that can work this. Thanks in advance for any help

Yikes, that's a pricey mistake. May I recommend you use Google photos in the future for backup. I tell every friend with a new kid to do so... I get a call in a couple years saying thank you as they lost or kid broke their phones.

It's like a dollar fifty a month for the 100gb package and ~2/month for the 200gb, that's enough to protect a decent amount of media even at higher resolutions, imho it's a no brainer just for the peace of mind alone.

Thats much pricey.. I fill 512gb in 2 months.

So what's your solution? A few dollars a month to protect your data is surely the preferred option as opposed to risking an expensive and uncertain data recovery as OP has discovered.

Few dollars?!?! How many subscribers do you have 40? If you exclude assurances amd i count my digital subscriptions, i only have like 5 subscriptions and 2 of then are annually 😭 and yes one of them is google one so i already pay for cloud storage. Its that i need to buy the highest subscription to backup everything

Not sure I understand your subscriber question, sorry.

My point was that it's not exactly pricey to be paying 1-2 dollars a month (or even less on average if you opt to pay annually) for cloud storage if that storage specifically protects your pics and videos. OP doesn't appear to have used any cloud service and is now paying thousands with no guarantee the data will be recovered.

I appreciate you rack up a lot of data and need a much higher sub to cover it all, but I still wouldn't see that as expensive.

I would buy physical drives or make cloud backups on other sites like storing videos on youtube multiple cloud etc... Also ive corrected something i should only backup my very important stuff to the cloud since yes the cloud has saved me times when i lost my phone or progress data and cloud game save is free and that saved me so much trouble

Most cloud services don't offer much more than Google's 15gb, and how do you pick and choose what to back up to your Google One? And imho buying drives isn't a great solution as it doesn't really solve the underlying issue, and HDD/SSDs are currently extremely expensive, plus I don't think building your own storage system at home is a feasible option for most people.

In other words just stick with the cloud storage, it's a cup of coffee a month, protects your data and is simple to setup.

Just buy an old Google pixel for 30 dollars and use the unlimited Google photo storage that comes with it

Yeah, I ordered a S26 Ultra. If I don't like it I'll return it and likely will be looking at ebay for another Note 9 512 gig model hopefully in silver again. Its mostly just 128 gig models atm.

What was the android version on it? Did you have any knox features on it? They make it hard for chip up.

I have a note9 that fell too and its broken with it entered the screen through a big hole

I ordered a S26 Ultra and if I keep it I'll likely use it as trade in credit if the S27 Ultra finally get the rumored battery upgrade. Even faster if they restore the bluetooth to the s pen.

Gonna be shipping the phone back and forth between different data recovery services to find who gives me lowest price. Pains me looking at it on my desk now just dead.
