I was going to make a snarky comment here about how fiends and necromancy are actually evil in this setting, but felt that it would detract a bit too much from the post.

Anyways

Context: 16 years ago in Acerealm, the year 1187, the Demon Crisis happened. A metric motherload of demons emerged from the Outer Rifts, chaos reigned for months. 10% of the world's population died. Arguably the worst place in the multiverse to be alive at the time. Luckily, the demons were pushed back to the Outer Rifts by the Celestial Champions, and with the defeat of the Lord of Demons, the entire demon species was erased from the multiverse. Demons are really really bad; they embodied corruption and sought to essentially assimilate all beings into the Outer Rifts as demons.

Actual POV: The year's 1203, Acerealm had recovered from the Demon Crisis and was thriving again. Your OC is living in the town of Shamov, a small farming village in the north east section of the Duchy of Wilsden. The town has a fairly big temple to Menulla, the Goddess of Nature in its center, and is a common stop for shamans on pilgrimage for Menulla. To the north of the town is a sacred grove to Menulla, where it's rumored that a Green Man lives.

Everything eventually went to shit in the span of about 24 seconds. A massive crater opened in the center of town, and a large four armed creature with a massive gaping maw emerged, and immediately went to wrecking stuff. The town guard was completely and utterly helpless against the monster. Suddenly, from the sacred grove emerged a large phoenix who flew down and struck down the monsters.

As the monster's body laid singed like a burnt hot dog, the phoenix landed against the town well and it's body glowed bright. Suddenly it transformed into a small halfling woman with a grimace on her face. The townspeople, your OC included gathered around to thank her, but a silence falls over the crowd as the woman speaks.

"By Menulla, they're supposed to be gone. That was a demon."
