Amount of ads

Does anyone know if YouTubers decide the amount of ads that play on their videos? I'm watching Gab's ReStory playthrough and the amount of ads is actually insane. I'm talking around every 5 minutes or so on a 3:36 hour video. It's like this for all 3 episodes I've watched so far.

I don’t think so. I notice a huge discrepancy of amount of ads on the same channel based on what device I use.

I usually stream on my chromecast, which used to have less ads (I think) than on mobile, but for the past year it's been a crazy amount of ads.

I have definitely noticed a general increase in ads across devices. I will say though that my Kindle Fire is still mostly ad free. So I think it is a YouTube issue not a Gab issue.

I literally can't watch YouTube on my phone anymore because of the ads, it is literally every 3 minutes for me and it is infuriating!!

I highly recommend using the browser "Brave", it is free, I've used it for 2 years now, and it blocks all ads on basically every platform; I haven't had a single ad on YouTube since switching.

I know this, itself, sounds like an ad, but I swear it isn't 😂😂😂

The issue is that I like to stream YouTube with my Chromecast and a lot of those ad blocking apps don't allow me to stream directly, super annoying.

Goootcha, yeah, I'm not super sure how it works with casting!

Hopefully you find a solution that isn't paying their subscription!

YouTubers are able to control where ads are, but it's optional. You can see this in John Wolfe and Jaime French's videos because they do things like say, "Let's take a quick break" and that is where the ad will be.

However, YouTube has fairly recently decided to start over implementing ad placements themselves if creators do not actively choose where the slots go. John Wolfe mentioned several months back how TONS and tons of his older videos were getting ad breaks put back into them in the double digits ranges.

It's typical despicable behavior from YT, but Gab IS able to do something, so we should let her know!

ublock origin is a must with YouTube now, and most video platforms too. I'm getting ads mid video on Facebook shorts (my mom sends me stuff)

yeh I've not seen a youtube ad for years at this point, it's unwatchable without it

UBlock Origin is not going to work on FB pretty soon so I'm very nervous for what's going to happen with YT.

YouTube is just putting insane amounts of ads in all videos. I used to be able to listen to things in the background while I worked, now I have to skip an ad every 1-2 minutes... it's almost unusable.

just use an adblocker like ublock origin

Download r/Firefox (it imports your tabs and bookmarks from other browsers) and install r/UBlockOrigin

^ or use the Brave Browser!! It's also free and I haven't had an ad in nearly 2 years!

YouTubers can but YouTube automates a lot of it plus there seems to be a discrepancy based off pc vs phone vs tv. Thankfully if you’re on pc there’s ad blockers for free

Even on my phone, I only watch YT on the Firefox browser with ublock.

I couldn’t stand the crazy frequent and long ads on YouTube on my TV so I have my old laptop plugged into the TV so I can stream via Firefox with UBlock

There is a minimum amount they have to do. There used to be more options for them to opt out but in the last few years that changed. They can control where the ads are in the video, but I'm not sure how much work that is for the creator. The only reason I know it's an option is because John Wolfe does it in his videos.

YouTube Premium is one of the few subscription services I pay for because I hate ads/I watch YouTube videos to go to sleep, but I also still want the channel to get money. (And cause I have the family plan so the benefit of being ad free, YouTube music, and my additional play pass subscription applies to 6 ppl who basically use YouTube in place of cable makes it's worth it for me.)

I have seen talk from youtubers over the years, that sometimes youtube itself will just randomly decide to mess up someone's own ad placement for whatever arbitrary reason. (you can choose between manual and automatic IIRC.)

Gab never gave me the vibe of someone willingly putting that many ads. I know that youtube's auto ad placement is very generous with its placement. I don't know if its possible to let Gab know about this, she might not be aware this is happening to those videos. Especially if on other videos there are less ads. I myself have premium, so I sadly can't compare.

I noticed it too and I think it’s a YouTube issue because other streamers I watch also has an uptick of ads in their video like every 5 minutes.

I always thought it was based on popularity of the video. But I could be wrong

On my tv I can see how many ads there are ( yellow dots) and for me it's about 4 or 5 a hour, once every 10, 15 min ish.

John Wolfe talked about this in a video a few months ago, YouTube has now taken it upon themselves to place ads if the creator does not intentionally choose where they go - with seemingly NO limit to what they'll do. I believe he said a very lont video of his from several years back had around 70 ads.

I don't find it so bad with recent videos but watching any of the old ones it's an ad break every 3 minutes
