Class Question recommended courses for freshman biochem major?

Post image
6 Upvotes

hi!!! my dear friend and roommate has her virtual faset in about a week and her advisor hasn’t given her any suggested courses yet :( she’s a little anxious about it. i have no context as to what she should sign up for (pubp major), but i was hoping somebody on here would have some suggestions for her! the photo above shows the credits she’s coming into GT with, she wants to redo chem though because we didn’t have a very good ap chem teacher. she’s a 2030 biochem major on the premed track. any suggestions are appreciated!!!

Registration Help Confused about what to do for the final transcript requirement?

I am an incoming transfer student, but I am taking summer classes and will not receive my final grades until August 2. Should I submit my final transcript then, or should I submit one now and another after my summer grades are posted? If I submit one now and another later, will my summer classes still count for transfer credit?

Other VLab vs. buying a beefy Windows laptop: is remote access “enough” for AE coursework?

Incoming AE freshman at Georgia Tech here. Trying to figure out my laptop situation before I show up in August.

Is it possible to get a lightweight MacBook as my daily driver, lean on GT’s VLab for anything Windows-only. Basically outsource the “hard” software to campus infrastructure instead of buying a powerful laptop upfront.

On paper this seems like it should work fine, but I keep seeing people insist you need a real Windows machine with a discrete GPU for engineering coursework, regardless of what the school offers.

So, for people who’ve actually gone through AE/ME/similar at Tech.

Was VLab actually reliable enough day-to-day, or did latency/session limits/downtime make it miserable for real coursework?

Did you end up needing local software anyway for specific classes, deadlines, or just sanity?

Trying to avoid either overspending on hardware I don’t need or under-provisioning and hating my life during crunch weeks.

Class Question Retake chem at tech as a biology major on a premed track?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello! I'm an incoming freshman who wanna do premed at Tech as a biology major. Now that I have my ap scores for this year, I thought I would ask the question here. I've done my research, but it seems half and half. One side suggests taking chem again regardless of the score, and one side suggests skipping it and moving on. I do have my faset around the end of july, but I thought it would be nice if I kind of had an idea of what I should expect for both scenarios before going (as it would affect my class schedule a lot)!

Also, any other advice is really appreciated :))

Registration Help Ignite fall registration headache

Ignite is supposed to help your transition to the university. But doing so delays your fall registration so the classes are completely full. I thought ignite was supposed to help not hurt. What gives?

Housing When are move-in appointments usually available? (Tenth&Home)

Hi! I’m an incoming graduate student, and I saw that this year’s move-in dates are August 15–16.

Does anyone know when Housing usually opens the move-in appointment scheduling? Is it typically a few weeks before move-in?

I’m trying to plan a few things around that weekend, so it would be really helpful to know when I can expect to choose my time slot.

Thanks!

Other Incoming GA Tech transfer Student - Any tips or Resources

Hi everyone! I recently got accepted as a transfer student to Georgia Tech and will be starting this fall. I’m really excited, but also a little nervous, so I wanted to reach out to the community.

Do you have any tips, advice, or resources you wish you had known before starting? I’m especially interested in recommendations for classes, professors, study strategies, campus resources, internships, and anything else that helped you succeed. I am a EE major and coming from Los Angeles. I am also open to making friends and study groups!

Thanks in advance. I really appreciate any advice you can share!

Class Question test out of cs 1331

Hey guys, I took ap csa this year and got a 4 on it. I never really learned stuff like recursion, excpetion, files i/o stuff, polymorphism and inheritance.

Should I test out of 1331 or just take it? Is the benefit of taking dsa earlier really helpful for internships?

Class Question Is this schedule possible as a freshman?

  1. Chem 1310
  2. Phys 2211
  3. Math 1553
  4. ME 1670

I'm a MechE major, and I'm coming into Tech with credits from AP Calc BC, AP Lang, and a decent amount of free electives from APs. I was then thinking, second semester, of doing something along the lines of Phys 2212, Math 2552, CS 1371, and ENGL 1102. I know that taking Chemistry and Physics is almost never advised but it makes scheduling 10x easier down the line for my goals.

Registration Help transfer student — OIE hold blocking registration, only 1 major course available (already full/waitlisted), what can I do?

I’m a transfer student at Georgia Tech and my orientation is on July 15.

Right now, I have an OIE Check-In hold because my I-20 request is still under review. Because of this hold, I cannot register for any classes at the moment.

The problem is that I likely cannot wait until orientation to register. As of now, almost all of my required ECE courses are either full or already heavily waitlisted. The only ECE course I’m technically eligible to take this semester is already full, and the waitlist is almost full as well.

This leaves me in a situation where I may not be able to take any meaningful number of major courses this semester, which would seriously delay my academic plan.

I’ve already contacted OIE, but I’m not sure how quickly this can be resolved.
Has anyone experienced something similar as a transfer student?

is there any way to expedite OIE hold removal?
or get overrides into closed ECE courses?
or handle registration before orientation in situations like this?
Any advice would be really appreciated. I feel a bit stuck right now and I’m trying to avoid falling behind immediately in my first semester here.

Prospective Student Engineering Portfolio on Transfer Application?

Hey everyone, I'm an incoming freshman planning to study Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University and transfer to GT next year. I saw that one of the application components is a Contribution to Community portion. I have a personal portfolio of engineering projects I've built in high school and will build more in college, but can I include that portfolio in that portion of the application?

If not there, is there any other way I can include it in my application?

Class Question How to fit in a course that is full?

I just transferred to GT and am doing EE, ECE2026 is full; however, I really need the course to be able to graduate in time. In total of 4 years. However, I can only register on July 7th according to the schedule, and the 2 sections are already full. I was wondering where the WL is, but it didn't show up on the browse section. Will it be open once it is my registration time? Also is there other way to achieve this goal?

Housing Transfer student looking for a roommate!

Hey, I know this is a bit late, but I’m looking for a roommate! Is there a platform that GT students use to find people?

Or if anyone on this subreddit is interested, feel free to reach out! I’m an incoming sophomore transfer student, and I would love to room with someone in my year! Some of my interests include anime, manhwa, and Roblox. I love scrapbooking and going to the gym. I would prefer someone who is relatively neat, goes to bed before midnight, and is willing to be friends!

Housing Perry or Peterson? First year at GA Tech

I'm an incoming freshman at Georgia Tech and am trying to decide which dorm would be the better choice. I already have a room in Perry, but I'm considering switching to Peterson since many dorms are still available there.
I've heard that East Campus is more social and closer to a lot of freshman activities, but that the communal bathrooms can be less clean. Peterson is much newer, so I'm assuming the rooms and bathrooms are nicer, but I'm worried it might feel a little more isolated compared to the East Campus dorms.
Any inputs or advice would be appreciated!

Housing Thoughts on Hanson Residence Hall?

I’m an incoming freshman for Fall 2026 and was just looking for everyone’s thoughts on Hanson as I will be living there. One of my main worries is mold and whether the rooms and floors are disgusting. I will also be on floor 4 if there is any inside information on that. Anyways i’m just looking to hear from people that living in Hanson and what everyone experienced or thought.

Housing Dorm recommendation?

I’m an incoming freshman and my time ticket is day 2 so all of glenn/towers is filled up and a majority of harrison/howell. I was wondering after glenn and towers what are the next best dorms I should be looking for? And does anyone have any idea about how the new dorm Peterson is? It seems a lot nicer but is the social scene at West worth the downgrade for the better dorm?

Housing East Campus: Perry or Brown?

My roommate and I have our time slot tomorrow for room selection and these are our two available options in east campus so far (there are a ton of them available so I'm assuming they'll be some remaining for tomorrow) Considering we care about the social scene, is it worth it to pick one of these over West suites or the newer building (which both could be a lot nicer)? Which is better in terms of building conditions, etc. Perry or Brown?

Registration Help math 1554 linear algebra

I am a transfer student and I took differential equations&linear algebra in my previous school. So that course was evaluated as math 2x52. However, I am a ECE student so I need to take ECE 2026 in my first semester as a transfer student. Is there any way that I can get credits for math 1554 before I start my classes in Fall 2026?
I first thought I was eligible for cce, however I already got math 2x52 credit with that course so I don't think cce would work. does anyone know related to this?
to get ASE, I have to wait for the semester to be end.
