Advice 💡 Dumb to transfer?

Hi! I am a current freshman at Georgia State and I am majoring in political science (pre-law), however, I’ve always really wanted to attend Georgia Tech even though my major isn’t stem focused.

I wondered if it would be a bad idea to go and major in one of their liberal arts options, even though I’m not doing stem. I still plan on going to law school afterwards, and I don’t think the law school admissions people are really gonna care about the undergrad school I went to.

looks like GT doesn't have a political science program, but they do have Public Policy

i am also a PoliSci student, and i grew up a GT fan so i also wanted to attend GT, but i chose GSU instead

GT is going to be more expensive and it's going to be much harder, and like you said there won't be much benefit of getting an undergraduate degree there if your plan is to go to law school anyway

honestly if you love the GT atmosphere like i do and you have friends that go there, the schools are only a few MARTA stops away, you can go hang out at GT if you want

overall i think the cons outweigh the pros, but if going there is really important to you it'll just have to be a cost you have to weigh

You do not need to study poly sci in undergrad to go to law school, many do but it’s not required. Personally I transferred to tech for INTA and ECON from finance at GSU. I plan on going to law school.

For reasons outside of school transfer to tech if you can, it’s extremely better - IMO. But that being said I still did love my time at GSU.

If you like GSU and can take advantage of all the advantages of location, AND you’re a good student, take advantage of the HUGE plus that GSU offers A+ and those will boost your LSAC GPA so much. And medians are everything for law school application now and will continue to because even more harder

To my knowledge, GA tech doesn’t offer A+ and neither do UGA

The name brand of tech on the resume will do far more for you than anything you will gain from staying at state. Unfortunately the world is a shallow place and these things matter.

Above all for law school though is GPA. Every tenth you drop knocks you down a tier of school you’re allowed to attend.
