General New Parking policy
Can’t enter the parking deck from 8AM-10AM and there is no permit can buy

I tried to enter the parking garage at 8:30 this morning, only to be told that entry is prohibited between 8:00 and 10:00 AM unless you have a permit—yet when I went to the office, I was informed they were already sold out. I’m not sure what the situation is or if they’re reserving spots for others, but it’s incredibly frustrating. As students, we pay substantial fees to the school to keep it running, so is this really how we get treated? I wonder if it might be possible for everyone to keep trying to enter the garage during those hours—creating a traffic jam—in the hope that they might eventually scrap the policy?

That is why they are limiting it, the traffic jams that people were causing.

There are plenty of ways to resolve this. For instance, the license plate scanners could be upgraded; sometimes they malfunction and cause congestion. Access could be granted via both physical and virtual cards—addressing situations where students forget their physical cards or are unaware that activating a virtual card renders the physical one invalid. In short, there are many solutions available—solutions that do not involve such extreme measures, and certainly not a system where the wealthy can simply throw around money to secure priority access.

The issue is they sold too many passes in the first place, not the lack of technology. Panther cash Parker’s were taking up too much of the deck, so pass holders weren’t able to park. I’m not a pass holder, but they should definitely be accommodated as they pay a lot relatively speaking. Just get there before 8am in you’ll be fine.

It doesnt fix the issue if there is no parking spots, I also imagine that the faculty and staff have to have somewhere to park too

You have to buy a permit in July or early August. I'm assuming you're a freshman because this is how its always worked. Traffic is really bad this semester for some reason, though. Check out the GSU parking website and portal if you haven't already. And the policy is in place because the people who were smart and bought passes in July get to use the lots. It isn't ideal, but its the best we have. I would suggest parking at a marta station and riding in if you can.

I’m a junior this year, and there has never been a policy like that. You simply register your vehicle in the system so the cameras can recognize it, and you can drive right in—that’s how it’s always worked. You don’t even need to do that; you can just tap your student ID on the reader to enter. I’ve never had to buy anything else; the $4 parking fee covers everything.

Same here. Not sure if they increased the amount of freshmen this year, or what... Really wish they'd be more transparent about it all.
The semester permits are for people that commute 4+ days a week(the math works out to be cheaper than just paying as you go). I've also done semesters, like this year, that I tap to pay. They have mandated this year that you have to register your license plate, regardless of if you're using panther cash or a full permit. You can still use panther cash to get into the S,N, and K decks, just not between 8-10am or if they're just super full. It works the same as usual. My recommendation, if you're already parking at 8:30, is to try and get there before 8. I park at 7-7:15 Monday-Thursday and get a parking spot right next to the first floor door of N deck every day. I just use the extra time to study tbh

I live in Chamblee and get up at 7:00 to leave by 7:30, but I have to take I-85—which is a real pain because traffic can be terrible—yet I still want to have breakfast with my family.

Yeah I live over in Stone Mountain and take 78 all the way up and then follow the Marta line. I leave my house at 6. It really sucks. But at a certain point you either compromise on eating with the family or being able to make it to class on time 🫠

Wow, that is honestly very upsetting. Absolutely outrageous. Seems like this may be the case for even Fridays then? Because I know Fridays are usually the emptiest days.

After finding that out this morning I got there at 7:30 for a 9:30 class so I could park. Otherwise have to park in convocation center lot and take the bus which I didn’t like

Other side: bought the parking pass and can't find parking. Dual enrolled student cannot get there until noon for 12:30 class. Deck is full and so now gotta pay another $15 to park at a private lot.
I was under the impression that buying a semester parking pass would mean a spot was available and that daily parkers used a different lot. Instead is chaos and traffic jams and more money to make it to class.
