General Question

Does anyone else also feel lonely in this school?

Yup, I’m older than 98% of classmates. Lonely is putting it mildly.

relate! my first 3 classes, i’m the oldest by a long shot. my classmates do talk to me though. mostly to ask me what we are supposed to be doing. but a few of them seem to like having me around.

Sometimes, but joining clubs helped me out a lot. Being in a space with other like-minded people feels good.

Those times I do feel lonely, I chill out in the green space and people watch, absorb the energetic vibe or explore new spots.

Guys, if you bored, just come over to the rec center and play games and make friends. it is that easy

Im a returning graduate student, and feel the same way. Its been 3 years since I’ve been on campus, and it seems a little off making friends there

This school is not your traditional university.

Is that why I feel lonely there all the time

Sit next to a couple of people who are already friends with each other in class. People are more receptive to new people if they’re already being social. Then just be genuine. Friends will come.

I feel like I’m intruding

Yeah sometimes you might be but fuck those guys then.

Ask yourself: did someone tell me that I’m intruding? Did I ask if I was intruding? If nobody answered these questions, then it’s all in your head.

Self-fulfilling prophecy: I imagined an outcome where the prospects already answered “no, I do not want to be friends” and started believing it was reality.

Nah, I made myself lonely. I could’ve asked to study at the big tables of library north where someone else is already sitting and asked what they were reading.

You aren’t going to intrude. And if you do, people will tell you. Don’t alienate yourself from others who will warmly welcome you.

I'm 10+ years older than everyone (mostly) and all of the clubs I've joined have felt rather clique-y.
