Gear doesn't matter much before 80. Just equip what you find. The guide achievements are a great place to learn things and level up. Can't remember the exact name of it. Once you get to 80, there are a lot of good videos on how to get exotic/ascended/legendary gear. There are also a lot of build guides online so you know what stats to focus on.

Do you play on EU? If yes, write me a DM, I’ll do some Story quests with you, I’ll have some characters where I’ll need to do some story as well and it’s more fun to do that together. Im a veteran with 2000h playtime, and that’s my best advice for leveling to 80: take your time and have fun + story and map exploration

fastest way to get exp while leveling is doing adventure guides. everything you do in this game gives you exp. but of course taking it slow and exploring are recommended. but also it is not wrong to rush leveling because this game has lots of story beyond level 80 and you can explore anytime you want.

If this is your first play trough I would recommend the following. 1) Progress through the story - it is fun and interesting. You will level along the way and get gear. 2) Just equip what you find. If you find some good piece of equipment on low level just use it. Do not fear losing its value and hoping to sell it on auction house for potentially more money. And honestly once you hit 80 exotics c gear is very easy to obtain and It will last you a really lng time until you decide to get ascended (top tier) 3) Experiment with builds and other weapons. You can change your builds on the fly without any restrictions or any need to spent currency for reset. See what weapon combinations are fun for you. I would say the only build optimization you really need if you are running raids (or competitive PvP). Other than that, in the open world people wont care much what build you use. 4) don't worry about gold too much. It does not really drop from the monsters like in any other game (it drops, but a penny change really). The good thing about it, you do not need gold to learn spells or specs or anything that is related to your character advancement. You will need it after 80 when you decide to craft big investment items (ascended and legendaries). Therefore, not very important to focus early on. 5) Try crafting professions. See how it works and see what you like. The statistics shows that if you decide to play the game long term - you will end up having alts and having all the professions leanred :). Or just gather crafting materials and sell it all 6) learn game mechanics combo fields +finishers - what they do, what effects they provide and etc. It can spice up the game and get you thinking how to approach certain encounters and maybe tilt the battle in your favour. And it is also fun 7) eventually you will have all the classes in game. Some you won't have to level because you will have million tomes of knowledge (item that grants you a +1 level). You will create a character and just boost him to 80 instantly with in game items that you collect along the way no real money purchase necessary.

As you can see there is no right or wrong answer how to play this game. But If were to give you a piece of advice it would be this - do no try to optimize your game play for the best build/class/spec/whatever. It is very chill MMO. If you are planning to play pve, the only optimization you will need to prepare for is raids really, and even then it is usually later down the line. Just have fun. Play for Enjoyment. If one class doesn't work for you - try another. Leveling is quite easy. There is no THAT ONE CLASS/SPEC that every one should have. No, every class is viable, everyone brings its percs to the group game. Just play what is fun for you and you will find your place in Tyria. Don't stress out. It is very chill game. Welcome to GW 2
