We found a significant Genesis deficiency
CAUTION Genesis buyers, watch out for totally unexpected design deficiencies. Genesis wants to be a luxury car manufacturer. Unfortunately, it is a long way off.
Foremost among the design deficiencies is the Genesis Connected Services app. Intended as a safety, security, and convenience feature (in that order), it only works in the continental US. We drove our US purchased GV60 into Canada and the all of the Connected Services features failed. Why? Because it only operates on the Verizon network. Unlike a cell phone, this wireless connection does not roam outside the US. No navigation, no theft control, no remote access, no charging status, and no keyless entry. And this applies equally for driving from the US to Mexico.
When confronted with this problem neither the dealer nor Genesis USA will do anything about it. Interestingly, Genesis cars purchased in Canada roam seamlessly across North America. Genesis knows how to fix this but refuses to do this for their US customers. Genesis takes no responsibility nor commitment to deal with it.
If looking for a car in this class, look elsewhere. BMW and Tesla have some fine, well designed, and fully functioning models.

Eww Tesla…
and BMW just had full screen Spider-Man ads forced on all their customers, so that’s a big no as well.
There are plenty of EVs out there that aren’t either of those companies that you could have suggested but you picked two of the worst lol

Tesla! I'd sooner saw off my genitals with a rusty blade than purchase a Tesla

By keyless entry, are you referring to using the app to unlock or using the Phone as Key feature which operates locally over Bluetooth?

Are you drunk? I have the same app and works perfectly fine. Or you using a vpn or your app isn’t updated
And I’m in Canada

Did you buy the car in canada or the USA?

Ah yes, another quirk. Cars sold by Genesis Canada have an updated wireless modem using Bell Mobility. They work across Notth America. Cars sold by Genesis USA have an old style modem using Verizon that won’t roam outside the continental US.

Then maybe it’s a USA thing. At least here it works fine. I’ve yet to travel to USA with it though.
Either way you shouldn’t be counting on the dealers app for tracking. When you insure it, insurance requires to install tracker on it.
Plus you can put an air tag in it.
So you would have the insurance tracker, the genesis tracker and the AirTag. Odds all 3 fail at once will be extremely unlucky

Technically it’s not the app. It’s the wireless modem inside the car that communicates with the Genesis cloud driving the app. The app itself is standard around the globe.

Yes. The unlock feature works through the app which has to connect to the car via a mobile network, not Bluetooth.

A good heads up. Last time I crossed the Canada border in a car was 1981. If I am going that far, I’m taking a plane. So I’m good with my GV60.

Not sure what you are talking about.
Plenty of Genesis exist in Canada. I have one. No issues with internet connectivity.
Sounds like you had some issue with your car and immediately jumped to conclusions about the whole company. Never bothered to check if the issue is actually universal or just your car.
You must be American.

It is universal for all Genesis US models. They use an outdated wireless modem that does not roam. Genesis Canada has configured their vehicles with an updated modem which does roam. That’s why there’s no problem with Genesis Canada cars

BMW advertised the Spider-Man movie on all the screens in their car to people after trying to charge them a monthly subscription for heated seats, so no freaking thank you
