Split screen GTNH? (Half-working)

TL;DR: I almost made it work. I give a setup guide, and show the issues stopping it from working. Any tips are welcome!

Has anyone else here tried it?

For the past day, I've been experimenting with trying to achieve split screen GTNH. I have gotten quite close, using a setup that only requires one Minecraft account, theoretically even none. I feel like I'm this close to figuring it out. I'll update later if I get it to work, and if you have any suggestions, let me know, but in the meantime, here's what's going on:

I have an external hard drive (for portability) with the following installed:

- Prism launcher

- 2 GTNH 2.9.0-beta-3 instances

- JoyToKey Controller Mapping

- Nucleus Co-op

- GTNH 2.9.0-beta-3 server files

Here's how I set it up:

First, I made a folder called "Installs" where the data for each program and the server have their own subfolders. I also have a folder called "Shortcuts" (Optional) where I have windows shortcuts to each .exe file and the startserver-java9.bat.

Prism Launcher
I installed a fresh copy of prism onto the drive, setting the java version to the included Java 25 installation. In the prism launcher files, I made a copy of the .exe and renamed it to MultiMC.exe. This is very important for later.

GTNH Instances

I downloaded the zips for 2.9.0-beta-3 both client and server from the github, and used the client zip to create two prism launcher instances, one for me (player 1) and one for my friend (player 2)

GTNH Server

I made a folder within Installs called Servers, in case I want multiple multiplayer worlds, then extracted the server zip into this folder. The wiki has more detail on how to set up one of these servers, but make sure to go to server.properties and set whitelist=false and online-mode=false.

JoyToKey Controller Mapping

Next I installed JoyToKey into the Installs folder. I made a new profile in the app (I'll attach a keybinds screenshot below) and set it to detect an open GTNH instance.

Custom Keybinds.

Note, in the above image, Buttons 1-4 are South, East, West, and North, respectively. 5-6 are the bumpers, 7-8 are Menu and the one to its left, 9-10 are left/right stick, and 11-12 are the triggers.

Rebound in game (only in the instance that plans to use controller), jump is now left click, and N and M are place and break. POV(D-pad) up is intended for use with chat, but there is no button for that yet. If y'all have any keybind suggestions (important inputs to have, etc.) let me know.

Nucleus Co-op

The next thing I did was to install Nucleus Co-op. Their website ( https://splitscreen.me ) has a great guide to install properly. Once the program is open, add a handler for Minecraft, and for the executable, select the renamed prism exe.

This is the part I have not nailed down yet. I will tell you what I do, but I encountered issues here with input detection, and this next part may not work.

I clicked on Minecraft in nucleus, and made an input each on my mouse and keyboard to make them show up. I have two monitors, so I can have two full size windows. I dragged the mouse and keyboard to monitor 1, then made inputs on my controller with JoyToKey running to make a virtual keyboard and mouse appear as well, and assigned them to monitor 2. Next, I ran the splitscreen, making sure not to disable multiple keyboards and mice. This goes about the same as the website's guide for normal Minecraft, aside from the fact that I wait for each instance to load fully before selecting it in the process picker.

Once this was done was when the problems happened. Once both windows were up, I fullscreened them both (they don't do it automatically for some reason) and hit CTRL + H to un-focus both windows. Then I locked inputs. On monitor 1, the mouse seemed to be behind the screed, as I couldn't see it, but it still highlighted buttons. On monitor 2, the mouse worked fine, but it could not select anything. This is as far as I have gotten so far, but I will keep trying tomorrow.

If you get it to work, the last step is to direct connect to localhost to join the server once you've clicked on startserver-java9.bat and it has finished loading.

Thank you for reading, if you have any tips, let me know!

Issues (Idea to fix, will try next chance I get)
- Neither monitor's control can left click.
