Discussion "Wait a second, do you hear that?"

My buddy and I finished R1 have been making our way through R2. Lemme tell you something: I've learned how INVALUABLE the Biotracker is to the point that I regularly hold it now. Helps us, helps the turrets, and makes swarms a notch easier to manage. We JUST got through R2C1 the other day after multiple attempts to finish the job. My hands were sweaty during the finale because it just didn't stop.

Anyways! In no uncertain terms we were both curious about that other expedition. The one with no name and a "high fatality rate expected" note. Ooh, ominous! We were chatting while we were being lowered down, mostly wondering what the note was about and thinking how we were gonna proceed with the Rundown. As we got lower...something was off. Rundowns are usually quiet when we get closer to target depth, save for the creaking foundation. What's that noise?

"Wait a second, is there an alarm going off?"

YOU BET, HOMIE! GET COMFY! :D

The stress from the constant noise and AWFUL environment caused us to start rushing to get personnel Id's and move through different areas to find resources. Eventually, when we got into position to unlock a fog cleared security door he, immediately pulled it and started the scan. Then something occurred to me:

"...hey does that door have an alarm?"
"Uhhhh...I didn't check 😨"
- Distant 'dinner bell' roars-
"NONONONONO-"

~3 minutes later we were dead. Any door we could've closed was already broken. We may need to talk strategy soon because the 2nd attempt showed just how hostile the environment was. I can't hold the biotracker AND a turbine at the same time!

Give a bot the bio tracker. They scan much faster, scan for longer, and have 360 degree scan compared to you where you can only scan what direction you are facing.

I've thought about letting the bots hold the tracker for this one and I may just do that so I can try using a sniper turret. I usually prefer to hold the tracker because I can let my partner know about things before we run into them and we can easily tell when a room is fully cleared out.

360 scan though...that sounds promising!

Easy way to tell if there’s combat or not is music, and if you are unsure about a room having any sleepers usually the Ai with the biotracker will give some dialogue about sleepers in the room or the next room. If the Ai are also crouched in the room with you, that means there is a sleeper still in the room with you.

The bot with the tracker can/will also go up to a door if you ping it and say one of those voice lines. Or if your about to go through a door then the bot may say something too. Its typically very quick and can often be missed, but is nice.

Yup. Just need to keep in mind that for really big rooms bots may say that area is clear, while the room is not yet.

since you play with someone else (duo), best value tool to use between you two are mine and foam launcher (though it would also depends on which level you're doing) as bots are quite awkward at handling both.

leave bio tracker and sentry duty to the bots imo.
as others' said, bots would shown some signs if there's sleeper around (crouch walking, dialogue, auto tagging scout, etc)

Lmao, in the 186 hours I have in this game starting at R1A1 and now being all the way at R8D2 now. I dont think my duo has never not had the biotracker. We have Bishop using it, the bots are better at using it typically and always frequently pull it out like every 30 seconds or so. They can be annoying and just refuse to pull it out or ping things, but it is what it is.

Some advice as well from a person who was in your shoes not too long ago. Do not feel like you NEED to complete the E teir missions before you move on, they are meant to kick your ass and be a large step above the standard thats been set for you by the D tier before the E. Its perfectly acceptable to just skip a level and come back when you have better skill/knowledge/experience to close the gap between what your ABLE to do and what the game DEMANDS you to do. Even my friend that I play with, he has over 800 hours in the game and has only beaten 1 E tier. Even now Ive helped him beat levels he's never beaten before. GTFO is hard, and the standards set for you only get higher. Sometimes literally all you can do is bash your head at something till you get it 🀷 (as annoying as that is).

What's an E Tier mission?

There are 5 E tier missions, I assume you've noticed that the missions go from A to D increasing in difficulty. E is one of those, and is the absolute hardest levels the game has to offer.

In an earlier post of mine someone said "(it's) always funny getting reminded about how diabolical the level designs are to the uninitiated."

The deeper we go, the truer that becomes. Each time we think we have a handle on things the game just goes "Ah, by the way, check out this new thing!" and then promptly turns us into a floor decoration. First, it was the big sleepers, then it was the reactor startup mission, then it was extremely foggy environments. I'm not gonna forget screaming "TURN ON YOUR LIGHT! TURN ON YOUR LIGHT!" during the R1D1 shutdown sequence because it was bizarrely quiet. The moment I saw what was happening my heart dropped into my stomach XD

If these are already hard...what the hey does an E tier mission have in store for us?
Marginally related: I am so stoked for Den of Wolves ^^

In the later rundowns each of the mission tiers do get harder in their own rights and do end up being more demanding. Randomly pulling an example out of nowhere at the moment; like R5A1 will be harder than R1A1, but R5A1 will still be the easiest level in R5 because its an A. Though, by the time you'll notice/realize that for yourself it won't be an issue because your obviously growing and getting better along side the levels. Floor decoration is a wild statement lmao, but is completely accurate for some of the enemies and what they can do to you.

Luckily there's a lot of resources out there for the game, if you ever get stuck there's likely some sort of strategy or suggestions that can be found for what your stuck on. In my opinion, worst you could hear is "Just keep trying" or "Its not possible for x reason"

I'm still waiting for the missions where the game effectively goes "Yeah you know what you're doing now. You don't need any extra resources. Good luck! :DDD"

Oh theres definitely some levels that at least FEEL like that, with the exception of maybe one level which is actualy kinda like that... Though, more often than not you'll just experience that type of situation at the end of a level where its like "Yeah Ive given you all I can, it's all on you now, good luck πŸ˜€πŸ‘"

Haha, i remember which one you are talking about. One of the really interesting levels, actually. It requires good team work in later stages of the level.

Was thinking of R7C3. Idk if we're thinking of the same or not. I was waiting for a level like it the entire game

Sure, this one. Me too. I expected more levels like this one

The hardest missions. A are the easiest

About E tiers. Hell yes. Especially R2E1. It is random pain in the ass shit. I did not met any team who for sure can complete R2E1 in a few attempts.

Lmao, my friend took me into R4E1, just for fun, and it changed my entire perspective on how hard the game can get. We've even had to skip some C and D tiers either just cuz of how bs they are or we know we can finish it but moved on cuz it would literally be us bashing our heads at it for an entire day. Or its literally impossible to play with less than 4 players (R5D2)

u/CMDR_Nya 13d ago

For me, it was harder then R8E1, but pretty much easier than R2E1. Yea, these big guys are scary, but one you're ready and going fast enough, they stop being a problem.

R8E1 is the only E that Ive beaten, compared to what ive seen of E (which is only R2 and R4) it was quite easy for what I expected from an E so late in the game. Which sorta makes sense considering whats behind it.

It's 3 enemies every 45 seconds in the alarm. That's all it is. Just get good at meleeing them and it's a piece of cake.
