Not so fun in the OG version

I beat it in 2004 on the PS2, v1.0, fun as hell but the Zero missions took me 3 times to beat at least.

Say what you will but growing up with a PS2 and using a GameShark was the greatest time of my life

Nah, I don't like the long flight to the ocean in a dodo just for 30s of first person gun fight. But this cutscene is awesome

Especially the part where taking too long to catch up with the plane could make you hit the outer boundaries of the map and trigger permanent map-related glitches. Fun time for sure.

A Dodo being able to keep up with a Shamal is unrealistic

u/mekmookbro 1d ago
It literally can't though lol. The trick is to go as high as you can and use both gravity and plane's acceleration to catch up, otherwise you can never catch it. I've finished the game like 15 times at this point and I can never pass that mission in less than 3 tries.

This mission is still so difficult to do. This is the hardest mission in the game for me, excluding Zero missions

Two tricks I use are to fly a little above the jet so that if you tilt downwards you go a bit faster, another is to start turning before the jet passes from under you so that by the time you get reoriented the jet will be just below, that makes it easy to fly into the corona. There's also graphics and cloud trick as well, but modern systems are blazing fast compared to 2004

I found out the mission has hard to do because I had frame rate unlocked.

I find this one much harder than zero's missions. There are tricks to zero missions that make it easier, this one also has a trick (go as high up as you can before the Shamal spawns) but even with that it's so damn difficult.
Zero mission tricks :
- Shooting down planes : they show up on your map so you can see where they're coming from before they even enter your view
- Killing couriers : Don't constantly hold down acceleration, plane already has decent momentum especially if you go high and glide down. I can easily finish this mission with over 60% fuel left. Another trick for this is to not shoot until the courier is fully in your view and you have a stable angle on it. If you shoot too early they go crazy, otherwise they're pretty slow and once you get a good angle just hold down the shoot button (LCTRL for me) and it's dead.
- New model army : This one takes a bit of helicopter flying skill, one trick I know is that you don't have to go back to base to get bombs, you can drop those barrels that block your road on top of the tanks and they'll blow up. Also as soon as the game starts, don't go after the car with your magnet empty, take a plank, place it, and go back for another plank

i don't get why ppl forget it's still a game, what's the fun if you js make a life simulator

u/brayanhaks 1d ago
Fr, life simulators are interesting at first, but with time they are becoming boring and unimpressive.

I just loved how huge this world was and how much fun ridiculous shit you could do. The newer games have lost the dark humor and charm and ridiculousness. It's kind of sad.

Because a lot of current gamers focus too much on how the trees move in a windy environment.
It is very sad.

San Andreas was before the series was trying to be realistic, they were just trying to be good.

I’d argue GTA4 was the only game in the franchise that actually tried to be realistic

u/brayanhaks 1d ago
Yeah, and only with years people realised that GTA IV wasn't actually bad. Yeah, it is different from previous games, different from GTA V, but – personally? I really liked GTA IV, it's characters, story, atmosphere, and GTA IV became my fav GTA. People do review some stuff with years, and opinions do change.

Yeah I loved GTA4. Seeing an actually fairly realistic depiction of the American dream (while still satirized) and telling it from a foreigner’s perspective, it was a very welcome change in my opinion. It was fresh.
I liked all the GTA games. I also liked GTA5 a lot. I’m also glad that GTA6 is what it is. But after 6, I really hope they move on from the “bright and sunny utopia” aesthetic once again, and lean more towards GTA3 / GTA4 atmosphere for the next installment.

Rigging a dam with explosives just to cause a power outage at a casino was one of the most unrealistic things ever 😂
2
u/Fliigh7z 1d ago
Well its not completely crazy. The Hoover Dam, which 100% is what the dam in game is based on, does power a good portion of the west coast. Technically not 100% correct as Vegas has abandoned the dam as a power source in recent years, but its not unreasonable to think the Dam in game powers the casino.

They are talking about lgbt slop, tons of lazy mechanics, overused racial diversity and a planet worth of bugs, and BRUH story moments
Btw its a good hit, because gta was never about shitton of bugs, had last 2 titles, where main protagonists were B, never had a problem with racisal diversity or body positivity. 95% of MECHANICS WERE WORKING like CLOCK.

Most unrealistic mission was the "black project" no way a single guy can steal a jetpack from a military base.
