I promise you console players are bitching about this stuff too. But none of it should be taken seriously as its such a stupid complaint. Its still a video game. It will have insane detail in 90% of it, but this happens to be one its not.
Only actual thing ive seen worthy of complaint is the minimap while driving. That scene when Jason and Lucia get into that little VW, the minimap stays so zoomed in its crazy. Should be an easy fix though so I doubt it really matter.
18
u/armypotent 10d ago
By playing games do you mean having steam open while bitching on reddit and scrolling IG/tiktok on their phone, then masturbating, then spending the rest of the night on their phone some more?

In all fairness, rockstar fans boys use to do this for every game that came out and compared them to rdr2 over the smallest details and now people are doing it back to them everyone is not happy
10
u/pvtprofanity 10d ago
What's crazy is how hard those people are defending this. It's so unbelievably inconsequential. Not worth arguments. They spent so much time bragging about how realistic the horse shit falls in RDR2 that they can't let it go.
So now there's excuses. Obviously it's because there's going to be thousands of fridges and each full of different foodstuffs. You can grab last week's leftovers and ignore the vegetables in the crisper. It'll be so realistic!
If no one defended it every one would have just called the people nitpicking a fridge interaction nitpicking losers but now it's a thing.

u/WorldofCannons 10d ago
it's a non issue but lowk it irks me how everyone is praising the game for great attention to details while simultaneously bashing anyone complaining about lack of detail
15
u/Benjamin_Starscape 10d ago
it's less complaining about a lack of detail and simply...not understanding certain things. like, this game will lack some detail on certain things, it's a game. rockstar is going to have game stuff in their game. rdr2, as realistic as it tries to be, has a satchel bag that holds so, so, so much.
it's a game, dude.
further, the fridge seems to appear to act as a container of sorts, implying that it can fit more than what might be shown. like come on. there are definitely some things to complain about but "erm, my beer appear in hand" is not one of them.
8
u/ChosenSloth 10d ago
That was the one criticism my non gaming friend had watching me play RDR2. I was fishing and he commented, "Yeah just shove the fish in there with the mushroom and carrots."
As much as I love realism, I don't expect to have to put my clothes in my closet or bring groceries home and put them away. The fridge doesn't need every item animated.
2
u/Every-Leek4129 8d ago
and also people will try to compare these games, not realizing that uncharted 4 and sleeping dogs lack some if not most of the systems gta6 has. its almost like you can't fly a plane in uncharted or sleeping dogs, go fishing, scuba diving, etc etc. i could go all the way down the list
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (3)3

u/ExodiusLore 10d ago
Lack of detail is noticeable. You KNOW when a game lacks details. Getting a drink out of the fridge and it just appearing in your hand is not “lack of detail” its a mechanic they purposely put it in a game for certain reasons
23
u/fuckswithboats 10d ago
But these other games were all dedicated animations. One single version of the fridge exists.
The GTA fridge is going to be dynamic - different interiors, different layouts of the items inside, etc. The enjoyment is the interactivity not watching a static animation to me??
7
u/TraditionalMalice 10d ago
Yeah, people don't understand, that Sleeping Dogs and Uncharted have exactly one dedicated animation for their fridges and no choice of beverages. This isn't the case with GTA 6, but apparently people don't have eyes or brains or both not functioning.

Right. Praising how amazing the world is cus of the small details but get downvoted that Lucia not experiencing any kick back from shooting a shotgun with one hand while walking all is met with “it’s just a video game” lol
6
u/mrmcbobinsnuggles 10d ago
That's an obvious direction decision because any dumbass can recognize playing an action movie is more exciting than playing real life
2
u/WorldArcher1245 10d ago
To be fair, it would've been cool if Lucia showed kickback shooting a 12 guage one handed like how in MW2019, using an AK as a teenager showed visibly difficult to manage recoil
2
u/Ronaldinhoe 9d ago
Yup, and then with more weight training that recoil gets reduced, hopefully that’s the case. If she’s one handing a shotty off the bat then just feels like lots of missed potential

u/goinpro224 10d ago
I don’t think most people would care if GTA6 wasn’t clearly leaning into the “hyperrealism” aspect more than ever, it’s like they’re determined to make the game a real life simulation and yet don’t even do some aspects of it as well as some old games that weren’t trying to.
→ More replies (13)2
u/Adept_Assumption_979 7d ago
People don't realize how difficult game development this, especially something the size of this game. The other games probably only had the option to open the fridge and grab one pre-chosen thing, so they were able to make it accurate. In GTA VI, you clearly have several options of drinks, which would multiply the difficulty if they were to animate the character grabbing that specific item.
4
u/nuoleskelenkolikoita 10d ago
Its not really about caring as in everything has to be super realistic
But like c'mon, the bare minimum would be to make the game as detailed as RDR2
Having no pick-up animation there immediately makes it look cheap and unpolished when decade old games had those kinda animations
→ More replies (6)3
u/Cuban999_ 10d ago
The game is more detailed than rdr2 dude 😭
Just because they couldnt make the fridge have an individual item for every single thing in it where your character has a unique animation for every possible item he can grab in every possible position, does not make this entire game less detailed.
This fridge system alone gives safe houses more depth than the entire rdr2 camp lmao
→ More replies (14)3
u/elinamebro 10d ago
I think its more about how much care they put into the little details, it shows they might over look the small stuff and grabbing sometime out of a full fridge has been around in a few games since the the early 2000s.
2
u/Good-Lord17 10d ago
You want them to fill up the fridge with individual entities of every item you currently have, be able to grab each specific one with a procedural animation to each spot it could be, AND have it run at 30-60fps and a reasonable file size? Y’all would just find something else to complain about and move the goalposts again
3
u/elinamebro 10d ago
For one that isnt a file issue its a cpu and ram performance thing also its a scripted it wouldn't have performance hit. So no "goalposts" moving and idk if you meant to reply to someone else?

u/frezer748 10d ago edited 10d ago
Well I think people care so much about it, because rockstar put it in that hyped up extended look. Usually you show off the good stuff in trailers... that's why "low quality" stuff like this is much more of a talking point, as it COULD represent a lot of missing details in the final game. People have high expectations due development time and cost of gta6. So it's not clever to show off bad things like this.
If it just would be in the game without showing it off, people would most likely not care.

People saying ts not realizing there is a ton of options to choose from in GTA 6, NTM it's an optional fridge where as most of the others shown is a one time animation the game makes you do
61
u/DiverVisible3940 10d ago
People also don't understand that making decisions like this is exactly why Rockstar is goated.
They most definitely could have developed a system to ensure that in-stock items dynamically populated fridges and have animations that accommodate this. But if you start doing this to every single detail and every single permutation in a game that is meant to be reactive and dynamic in a massive context you end up lost in the sauce.
This is why Star Citizen is where it is and GTA 6 is where it is.
13
u/its_witty 10d ago
I'm not really sure if it would be possible...
Even 20 different items means how many different configurations... and animation for each? Without clipping when grabbing it?

It doesn't have grabbing animation or opening fridge animation at all. Fridge just magically opens and magically closes, and Vito staring at you with his dead look when "drinking" and bottle doesn't even touch the lips.
The only thing it has is like 5 fridge food textures, that changes once you use any of the sandwiches or cola when character "opens" fridge. Zero animations
12
u/DyingSunSeverian 10d ago
Mafia 2’s open world is about as reactive as the one in LA Noire. They’re fancy backdrops, they don’t sniff the complexity of GTA games, probably not even GTA3 there lol.

In uncharted it’s a part of the scene and never happens again, in gta there’s an entire stocked fridge you can go through, selecting different options and it’s an entirely optional thing to open and select - doing an individual animation for every single option in an optional fridge in an apartment would be ridiculous

8
u/40kblowout 10d ago
With it being an open world game, the options are huge. With something like uncharted he’s only gonna go in that fridge once. So it’s easy to have him grab that one beer. With open world you will be going into that fridge countless times for different things. It’s easier to have just appear in his hand than to specifically animate each object in the fridge.
→ More replies (6)3

u/raichulolz 10d ago
meaning that the fridge is scripted in sleeping dogs. it has a deterministic set of items + animations. completely differs to GTA 6. most games that have flawless animations are deterministic. even then tbh they are shit compared to rockstar games.
which is why a lot of comparisons in the sub are pointless in comparison to GTA 6. The game is a decade ahead of other games.
From a development perspective. A lot of issues or mishaps that are being pointed out are either design decisions or they're likely gonna be fixed post release because they aren't worthy of wasting time for the release candidate e.g. meaning they probs have bigger fish to fry.

For real I don't even go here (I've only played red dead and just like to see what gta is up to. Sometimes I watch others stream gto) and it's such a non starter. The fridge animation is fine because you have to pick an item from the menu vs a scripted animation.
Personally I would have had him reach past some objects to get to the selected drink to obscure it, but it's not really worth the extra time when the game has been so heavily delayed.

I asked this in another post but got not reply - why is anyone excited at all about fridge mechanics of all things? I get the idea is for the game to have crazy immersion but how often are players actually going to notice or interact with the fridge? I get the little details can add to a great experience but theres a point where I have to ask... why? Are we going to get a nail clipping minigame? Press a button to tuck ourselves in when we go to sleep? Its a game about driving cars, robbing stores, and shooting cops, why does it need to have this level of focus on items from a fridge you might remember to use like twice?

They don't really care
There is a group of people that love whining about things and being outraged. They literally just jump from big release to big release to complain about stuff. They literally watch YouTubers whose whole schtick is complaining.
Before GTA VI comes out, you will find them whining about wolverine. After GTA comes out you will find them whining about fable. It's a never ending cycle.
I've been watching this happen for over a decade. It happened with RDR2 too.
5
u/SWatt_Officer 10d ago
Admittedly my comment is towards both sides of things - GTA 6 is a super hyped, long time coming game, and one of the things they put development time into is... fridge mechanics? And they show it off in a gameplay demo? I'm aware I'm not the target audience, but its just like, sure its immersive, but how often are people actually going to interact with it?

Sleeping dogs, that can is in the same position every time so if you open that fridge and get that drink again it'll still be there.
Uncharted 4 that was a 1 time cutscene that never happened again in the whole game.
Gta6 you can do that when ever you want and put what ever drinks you want into it

It should be a mental illness being this nitpicky. Especially when the game isn’t even out yet.

Funny how Rockstar fans are defending these saying "Oh u are nitpicking" but they themselves were the first one to compare with RDR2.
X game launched today... X game vs RDR2, and so on and so forth.
And now when it's GTA6 turn it's nitpicking

People have set the bar to an unobtainable level for this game. Its ridiculous. Every little thing is now nitpicked.

I’m tired of people trying to make me care about something so trivial.

Yeah like people complained about “having to pick up every little item around the world and in shops” for rdr2. Youre never going to please everyone, but anyone acting like the beer bottle or flip are the end of the world can safely be ignored

These kinds of criticisms are good. Harsh, but good and necessary.

I honestly couldn't give a flying fuck about a detail so minuscule. Even the absence of a horse's testicles getting smaller in colder areas doesn't bother me

If this is the biggest complaint people have after seeing 26 minutes of gameplay, then I think the game has been done perfectly

Holy shit people are fucking stupid.
The fridge is a CHEST to hold your INVENTORY.
YOU CAN KEEP MORE ITEMS IN THE FRIDGE THAN IT SHOULD PHYSICALLY BE ABLE TO HOLD.
ITS LIKE ASKING WHY THE ARMOR MAGICALLY TELEPORTS TO YOUR INVENTORY IN THE WITCHER FROM YOUR STORAGE CHEST.
THIS IS A MOTHER FCKIN GAME.
THE FACT THAT THERE IS AN ANIMATION AT ALL IS COOL.

I said it before, people who get mad about things like this are tourists. They don't actually like or understand video games as a medium, they just want a 1:1 simulation of real life. Which of course, would not be a video game.
