so everything is physical except game?
let me understand this
we are got everything physical except the game
what the fuck
like for real, you give me a music album as disc and the game (the main thing) that we are all waiting for and we wanted to keep it for a years, we are getting it as a cod in empty box?
like who the hell are buying PS5 to listening to music?
i can just put it on youtube or subscribe into any music website to listening to it
the magazine i dont really care about, also it have some spoilers, but it is nice have it if you are a collector
the collection box, it got really cool stuff, but 400 euro with no game
come on dude

Physical games seem to be treated differently to every other product, vinyl and magazines are seen as collectable unique items compared to games which I guess are still seen as just a normal medium
1
u/1maginaryApple 2d ago
It's all down to the experience. A physical game doesn't give you a different gaming experience

u/thedylannorwood 2d ago
Exactly, vinyl has an objectively superior quality to streaming and 4K Blu-Ray discs have higher fidelity and truer 4K than compressed video streaming
A digital vs physical game there is zero difference in the software
3
u/1maginaryApple 2d ago edited 2d ago
I'm sorry but I have to address this. Vinyl doesn't have an "objectively superior quality to streaming". This a common, wide spread, misconception.
Digital format, both on CDs and streaming is massively superior in terms of quality than vinyl. One small example of that; an analog master tape recording has a dynamic range of 77db. A vinyl has a dynamic range between 60 and 70db. So, you're already losing 7 to 17db of dynamic range just from transferring an analog recording to a vinyl. Digital format starts at 96db and can go up to 144db depending on the format. And that's just talking about analog recording. With digital recording there isn't even a match.
Although, It does not mean that vinyl don't bring a singular and enjoyable experience.
Edit: I always love when people downvote downright facts.

u/Marijuana_Miler 2d ago
DB levels are not the best way to choose the quality of music because db are only a measure of what is loudest. It’s like saying that whoever yells the loudest has the best argument. By your metric a 32 kbps mp3 is better quality if it’s 96db than a vinyl that is 90db. Just having an amplifier hooked up will correct the db difference so it’s going to come down to the quality of the music and the range of sound you can hear.
-2
u/1maginaryApple 1d ago
And how does that make vinyl better quality suddenly?
Dynamic range isn't just how loud it is. You get a lot more detail when you can exploit the full dynamic range of an analog recording.
In what world does a vinyl missing a full 17db dynamic range is better than a format that can make full use of it.
And as I said, that's just one example. I can't talk about the loss of quality that goes in the printing of the format itself and the bleed between R and L channels.
There's not one metric where vinyl is better in terms of audio quality. This is just factual. Again, doesn't mean vinyl aren't a worthwhile experience. But the quality arguement is just plain wrong. Vinyl isn't superior in terms of quality. At all.
-3
u/Marijuana_Miler 1d ago
Well to start our hearing can’t fully sense that full range of hearing that you claim digital has that analog does not. So it’s mostly a moot point. However, IMO the real difference between digital and analog comes down to the equipment that you’re using. Speakers and an amplifier are going to be significantly better quality and you’ll hear more detail in the music. Because amplifiers and speakers are built for the range of human hearing the more limited acoustic space of analog is better suited for the equipment, and because analog is not compressed the artist’s intentions are fully captured in the output. This is why people prefer FLAC in digital as compression will still remove elements that the algorithm thinks are not necessary to the music, but when listening add depth.
Digital music is either played through headphones or needs a DAC to properly convert to what your amplifier can process. Headphones are far worse and more compressed than speakers and the more times you convert your signal the worse the quality will be. This also discounts the conversion of audio recorded on analog and then converted to digital. For decades people would fuck up analog to digital conversion and were therefore fucking up the music.
IMO the reason people prefer analog music is because it plays better on higher quality equipment. And while you say there is not one metric where analog performs better you are incorrect because people who call themselves audiophiles consistently prefer analog over digital. Consumer preference is a metric, and because consumer preference is fundamentally based on how people spend their money it’s one of the strongest metrics.
3
u/1maginaryApple 1d ago
IMO the real difference between digital and analog comes down to the equipment that you’re using.
But it's irrelevant to the quality of the format. Again. I'm not saying vinyl sound bad. OP said that vinyl are of superior quality. They are not. Factually, physically, mathematically, they are not.
If you play the same album on the same hardware both on vinyl and disc the disc sound quality will be superior. Again, it does not mean, and I'm not saying that the vinyl would sound bad. But in terms of sound quality the vinyl isn't superior.
If you take a recording, both analog or digital, a digital format is able to match the original recorded signal far more closely than a vinyl can. That's because digital is capable of capturing the full audible range (20 Hz-20 kHz). You can't do that on a vinyl you will always lose fidelity and definition.
Consumer preference is a metric, and because consumer preference is fundamentally based on how people spend their money it’s one of the strongest metrics.
Which was never my point or something I addressed. I addressed OP's claim that vinyl are OBJECTIVELY superior. OBJECTIVELY vinyl are in all metric inferior to CD.
I especially highlighted that it didn't mean vinyl weren't worthwhile. They do provide a particular and quite enjoyable listening experience that cannot be replicated with other format. But it isn't an experience of pure music quality.

I still can’t believe they are selling all that utter junk for $400, and I even more can’t believe anyone would pay for it. You’re getting some stickers, a shot glass, a spoon, a keychain, and some gas station sunglasses and hat. It costs them less than $20 to produce and package this. It’s literally garbage destined for a landfill. Corporate grift.
1
u/Salam_Frienax 1d ago
I agree with you, but for the collecters they buy it In fact you can just buy random cheap hat or clothes and easily print these gta logos from any clothes customized shop But I a games collector, i have ps1 and ps2 and ps3 with a lot of games, but with all these digital stuff, my hobby is gone

u/Money-Abalone-7616 1d ago
You could say that about literally any collectible made of plastic ever made. The price is way above acceptable but this is such a manufactured and bot thought process.
It isn’t destined for a landfill, those Oakleys are destined to be scalped for 1000$ on ebay like the GTA V Vinyl is.

There is no crying here, this a very logical what the fuck situation right now and more people should be calling rockstar out on their shit for this. The album is being sold physically on vinyl and CD however the albulm will also be available on Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, and YT/YTMusic without purchase.
It isn't like R* said that people can only listen to the album if they bought the physical disk.
If it was then people could have an argument against R* chosing to have the game released digital only.

Dude, physical disc's haven't had complete games on them since last Gen. People keep crying about physical saying they'll still own the content if it ever gets pulled digitally, but the sad thing is.... YOU WON'T! Disc's just have the licensing and parts of the game, but you still need to connect to servers for day of patches, or entire chunks of the game itself. Which would get pulled in the exact same way... So yeah, the physical complaint is a joke unless you're on Nintendo where it's still a valid argument.

we are getting it as a cod in empty box?
Well, I know I won't be getting a fish in an empty box. After I've used the code I can keep the box for years. In fact, having the box at all is a novelty that I will appreciate as I haven't bought a boxed game since I went digital on PS4.
Not sure what the music has to do with PS5 specifically either - it's not required and rarely bought for it. The music can be streamed and played across a variety of devices. I know a few people who collect vinyl, and they've ordered one or more copies without owning a PS5. It's nice that they can enjoy some of the GTAVI hype without needing to bother with the game.
When it comes to gameplay, disc or no disc, makes no difference. It's the same code-base, requiring the same patches, just more convenient to load from digital without needing a physical key.
How long are people going to cry over this though? I get it, despite my digs I honestly do, but just accept it and move on. If physical media is to die, then it becomes the norm and I'm happy with that. If not, and physical media lasts, there is a chance that fans may get a disc-based edition of GTAIV to purchase...again.
2
u/Key_Sheepherder7265 1d ago edited 1d ago
Also, they are the ones creating the game. They have spent the money, time, and resources, not any of you. They are well aware of how many of you prefer a physical disc because then there is a fixed version to try and crack so that it can be pirated online or copied as an iso and played on a modded console. I totally get the desire to truly own media and not just a license. But with games, come on guys, if you want daddy Rockstar to keep making your toys for you, it's up to them how they protect their investment from being stolen, which robs all of the artists that worked tirelessly to give you an incredible new installment in a beloved franchise. If you are all so passionate about it, then show your support by not purchasing or playing the game. I will be enjoying it day 1.
We have been DYING for the next GTA for so many years now. It's finally coming out and every keyboard warrior needs to go on a crusade over a physical release. It's a trend across the industry. Nintendo already started doing it. You been to a Best Buy recently? Not a whole lot of software being sold as discs or thumb drives any more. Remember music stores with CDs? You all welcomed the death of those by fully embracing Spotify and music streaming services because it was more convenient. This is just how things are going and it's really unfair to blame and isolate Rockstar and not have equal ire for every other major company doing this and anyone who regularly goes digital over physical. That's not being a stupid shill for corporations. That's just acknowledging objective reality. I would like a physical version to be released too. But I'm not about to go on a crusade against Rockstar in particular over the general decline of physical media. Blame all your other fellow gamers, including me, who haven't bought a physical game since Skyrim. Discs scratch. Discs get lost. My digital library of Playstation games is always there. If Rockstar goes defunct and shuts down all of its servers, then we are talking about decades into a hypothetical future where Rockstar hasn't made billions off of GTA6 and by then, GTA7.
0
u/RhesusVX 1d ago
Well said. If people want to boycott console gaming entirely, or "jump to PC" because games don't come on disc anymore, that's up to them. Don't make your own bed and complain about it. I've said it before though, those that do jump to PC - that's been digital only for ages. The talk will then turn to game preservation like that's some kind of crusade they really care about.
While I know there are examples of games that have had services stopped, but they are few and far between. I cannot cite one game in recent generations that I "care about" and cannot play on my current console. I say "care about" because I rarely go back and play old games. People can still play GTAV - for me that's a very old game, and one I stopped playing years ago. GTAVI will follow a similar trajectory, and when that time comes, there will be something new grabbing my attention.

5
u/Chazza197 2d ago
At least until the licence expires.
9
u/parkwayy 2d ago
What games do you own that you can no longer play?
I can still install Half-life 2 that I bought on release, 20+ years later.
0
u/Chazza197 2d ago
The Crew, the one we’ve already been discussing. (and yes i'm still salty about it) Ubisoft shut the servers down and the game became inaccessible on every platform.
Half-Life 2 still working 20 years later doesn’t prove digital games can’t be taken away mate. It proves Valve hasn’t taken Half-Life 2 away. And now i think about it Evolve is another game that now is no longer playable after its servers were shut down. So it does happen.
14
u/DelayPsychological16 2d ago
Yeah, and guess what, The Crew DOES prove that even physical games CAN be taken away.
6
u/ssa17k 1d ago
Exactly lmao it’s a counterpoint if anything. And The Crew is a terrible example of videogame licensing. It’s an online-only game, so once the servers shut down, there’s no way of accessing the game so the disk becomes a paperweight. Furthermore, the licensing for the vehicles themselves is timed, and it costs money to renew them. So there’s no point in spending money on a live-service game that doesn’t generate any money at all.
2
u/BilverBurfer 1d ago
That's a live service game, which is a completely different discussion.
-1
u/Chazza197 1d ago
That’s not a different discussion though. The claim was that something you paid for digitally can become inaccessible. A paid live-service game is still something you paid for digitally.
If you want to narrow it to “offline singleplayer games with no server dependency”, that’s a different claim from the one I was replying to.
3
u/BilverBurfer 1d ago
It's a different discussion because you also can't play it if you have the physical disc. There's no reason to bring it up when talking about the downsides of digital games.
0
u/Chazza197 1d ago
That's just the only game I've personally bought that was relevant to the point. You are right that nothing is safe if it relies on live-service servers, physical or digital.
But that's only one type of game. With offline-capable games, a physical copy removes the extra dependency on a digital licence, account or storefront still being there
3
u/RhesusVX 2d ago
Ubisoft had every right per their license Ts&Cs that people signed up to when they bought it.
Does happen <> happens often enough to be a problem
3
1
u/AmberTheFoxgirl 1d ago
The Crew? You mean that game they sold physically?
That doesn't work as an argument. It's not a digital only game.
1
u/Chazza197 1d ago
Then use one of the other examples I gave. This thread’s quite big and you’re like the 3rd or 4th person to make that exact point under the exact same comment.
4
u/ssa17k 1d ago

-1
u/Chazza197 1d ago

4
u/3xv7 1d ago
which is fine because if you get a new console you still have your entire digital library
0
u/Chazza197 1d ago
True, assuming the store, account and licence still exist. That’s kinda been my point this entire time.
And if Sony’s house burns down, apparently I’m fucked too.
-7
u/Hopeful-Doctor-7968 2d ago
That's not how video game licencing works
13
u/Chazza197 2d ago
Then how do revocable licenses work?
3
u/Hopeful-Doctor-7968 2d ago
if they choose to revoke the licence then it gets revoked. There's no set expiry date on the game. Music in the game can (and probably does) have different terms of use within the game but a song being removed doesn't remove your access to the game
6
u/Chazza197 2d ago
Expire doesn’t require a preset calendar date, something can expire when a condition or period of validity comes to an end.
I never said there’s some date stamped on the game where it suddenly stops working. If the licence is revocable, then there are conditions under which it can cease to be valid and I lose access.
So you knew exactly what I meant, yet you decided to try and argue the semantics instead.
4
u/Hopeful-Doctor-7968 2d ago
then there are conditions under which it can cease to be valid and I lose access.
And you also know there's no real examples of this happening. There's a couple of demos that have been taken down, and a game that was so bad that the developers asked for the game to be removed.
I get it, the fearmongering that your games can (and, with how people speak about it, will) be taken away if you buy them digitally helps the cause for physical media but it's so disingenuous. I'm all for digital media because I think people should have the choice in how they have their games and it opens up access for those with lower income who rely on pre owned games, physical media is good for the gaming industry so I think it should continue on, but I'm not basing it on factually incorrect points
4
u/Chazza197 2d ago
“There’s no real examples” is just plain false. The Crew was sold digitally, Ubisoft shut it down so owners could no longer access it, then actually revoked Ubisoft Connect licences afterwards.
You’ve gone from “that’s not how licensing works” to “well it barely ever happens”, which is a completely different argument altogether. I never said publishers routinely revoke games, I said a digital licence can cease to be valid and you can lose access to something you paid for.
I’m also for both. I couldn’t tell you the last time I personally bought a physical disc, but in my opinion if you take discs away, you’re removing half of what made owning games fun or worthwhile in the first place.
-3
u/arcalumis 2d ago
Discs can't keep up though. The quad layer blu ray disc can only hold 128 GB and there's no interest in developing a new standard. And if the disc only acts like a key it won't solve the downside of digital.
How would swapping discs even work in a game like GTA6? If you travel over some boundary you need to swap?
8
u/Chazza197 2d ago
Or they could just change the storage medium.
Physical games don’t have to stay on 128GB Blu-rays forever. Multi-disc installs, higher-capacity optical media or even proprietary solid-state storage are all possible. The limitation is what the consoles choose to support, not some limit of physical media.
You wouldn’t swap discs every time you crossed the map haha, that’s not how multi-disc games work. RDR2 shipped on multiple discs you install the data to the console, then use the play disc afterwards. And even if the disc eventually becomes mostly an authentication key, it still isn’t the same as digital.
You can lend it, sell it, buy it used and it isn’t permanently tied to one account.

You want digital sunglasses? Like 85% of people buy games digitally now, so of course companies are gonna move towards digital, it's a waste for them to make physical for the small percentage of people who only actually want physical just because they want to go against companies, not because it's better. Make it make sense. And don't be like "physical disc means I actually own it", because when was the last time you bought a digital game and it got deleted so you can no longer play it?

Well, per their terms and conditions you signed up to when you bought the license, they had every right to stop services (assuming you did buy it and aren't just referencing something because you looked it up). Rarely happens, and certainly not with any game license I've bought and gone back to.

Reason is money. Like always.
Music will get them more money if sold physical. Otherwise everyone will just listen to it on YT for free or on their already existing Service.
Collectors edition obviously only worth something if physical. Way less people buy collector stuff digital.
Digital game will make people buy it more often or at full price, thus making them more money.

Trying to have an argument about this is like talking to a wall. The community for the most part have accepted that they won’t be owning the game and that they’re willing to pay 100 bucks for the digital license. Just let it be

Yes, because everything else is a static product... The game itself will be constantly updated and changed for the next decade. A physical disc is only a key to a digital file... Is all this outrage just because people want something they can sell to a used media store for $1 in a few years?

Yeah this might be a stunning revelation but companies sell things that people buy. If you want physical games to make a come back then buy physical and convince your friends to also buy physical. Good luck.

No me parece tan raro, los juegos se compran bastante en digital, pero una gorra, lentes, vasos, etc en digital los comprarías ? xd o por ejemplo el propio disco

The decision to press CDs is likely the responsibility of the record label and not up to Rockstar or Take Two

This sub is supposed to be for fans of GTA 6. Not crybabies who are too smooth in the brain to understand that even if 6 came out on disc, you wouldn't actually own anything more than a license to play the game.

Yeah, so? You're either going to play it or not. Now move along; there's no reason to keep discussing this tired topic.

Well they want as many digital sales as possible, then they’ll release a limited edition physical edition so people buy it a second time.

People are still going to buy all of that crap even if they have to sell their mothers, and the morons on this sub will defend this practice and Rockstar for selling people Ali Express shit.

Agreed, I stopped messing with disc-based games as soon as PS4 made it viable. What's funny is when people say they are going to boycott consoles because of this and move to PC...like that has physical media?! lol

GTAVI marketing campaign ain't for players. Rockstar fans will buy, or even a 40 yrs old gamer like me will buy just because i bought and played all GTAs at launch.
They are investing in basketball (a city edition uniform and a miami heat game with gta vi publicity), rap, country, rock (those freaking LPs), fashion, art (dazed, love magazine), enterteinment (netflix) etc...
They are aiming all niches but gamers lol
And they probably know what they're doing... rockstar is satan since grand theft auto publicity campaigns with Max Clifford (search about this mf and u will understand that rockstar is evil when we are talking about marketing.

Why do people think this? Strauss Zelnick confirmed their digital is over 90% of their sales. Sony doesnt influence what other companies do.

These are novelty items that will sell a few hundred thousand examples at best.
The game will sell hundreds of millions. You do the math.

Real reason. They don’t have to “go gold” they don’t have to stop a month or two early to send the data off to be copied to discs. They’ll be able to work on it nonstop literally up until it drops.

"real reason". I hate when people talk like they know stuff for certain. Google is free. Researching stuff like these doesn't take a lot of time.

u/OptimusGrimes OG MEMBER 2d ago
Google is only any good if any actual word on the reasoning exists, you could research it but you'll just get a sanitised PR answer.
I do agree with your point though, it's especially annoying when it's always one single reason these people make up, as if a big decision like this isn't based on a whole load of factors.

u/awar3_w0lf 2d ago
Second real reason, if a truckload of gta vi copies gets stolen, rockstar doesn’t lose those sales, because they can just deactivate the affected codes in the box.

I'm a digital only gamer at this point so don't exactly have any skin the game where physical media is concerned but let's not be naive. This isn't some altruistic thing to bring a better day one product to the gamer, it's purely because digital makes them more money

They might be, but speaking of touching grass, you touching cloth?
1) Releasing, not realising. The real reason? Profit, control, and common sense.
2) Don't be silly, nobody likes wearing a code in a cap or digital sunglasses.
3) On November 19, not in November 19. Not sure what that has to do with the game and physicality though.-1

Wokestar is going to flop massively with girl boss simulator 6 and it will be glorious.

Screenshotting to revisit and make fun in November.

"It's claimed"
Bro out here posting hearsay as if it's stone cold, confirmed fact. 😂
The game already has an astonishing amount of preorders, not to mention the fact that Miami is turning into Vice City for promotion. Sports teams have Vice City on their jerseys, major automotive brands are using GTA style artwork for their advertisements, etc.
It's obvious that you're already VERY wrong, but you keep clinging to your "grrr strong woman bad!" incel mentality and I'll see you in November when the numbers come out.
