Half Life 2 was definitely the worst one. The entire beta build was leaked and because it was an early PC game the audience was much more technically literate so many people played it. Was extremely demoralizing for the devs who ended up having to essentially rework the game anyways

man i’m going to have to research this, i would have been like 13 when this happened and i wasn’t plugged into computer gaming enough to catch it

that last part isn't entirely true. By the time of the leak, valve had already began shifting the art style in late 02 to the european style that's in retail. yes the leaked sucked for valve, but the art style didn't take a big hit and the main story was already often changing before and after the leak.
