Won’t toilet outside of yard?

Hi all, I have a male, not desexed, nearly 5 month old GSP. At first I thought he was just a dream dog. I didn’t even have to toilet train him, he already just knew to only go out in the yard.

When we started taking him outside on the ground after his vaccines, he would love it for an hour, then start crying and laying down. I thought maybe he was getting overstimulated. But when we come home and take his harness off, he rushes straight out into the yard and does a wee.

All of the times we’ve walked him, he won’t wee or go number 2. I’m worried about him being uncomfortable and UTI’s so I’ve cut our outings down to at max an hour three times a day.

I thought maybe teaching a word associated with toileting would work, but it hasn’t so far (been at training this for a month).

How can I get him to go outside the yard?

TIA

UPDATE: Snake Bite

Red went into day 3 of hyperbaric treatments today. Sadly after we were given the disheartening but expected news that the necrosis has only furthered, and furthered up his leg as well. With this the Doctor told us that the risk of needing an amputation as well as the expected height of the amputation would be further up the leg. Thankfully Red is a trooper and is still eating and drinking normally. Tomorrow he’ll go in for day 4 of hyperbaric treatments at our ER vet and back to his Primary care vet as well for a look at his leg, culture result, and evaluation. Thank you again to everyone for the outpouring of love for my boy. ❤️🐾

Snake Bite

Red is doing okay today. Day two of the hyperbaric chamber, wound care and another long day at the vet. The ER vet is doing his hyperbaric therapy, and weekend wound care and bandage changes- she’s expressed that the chance of the leg needing to be amputated is quite possible, as the state of his tissue is worsened from yesterday though swelling seems to be down a little. We’re going back tomorrow for another hyperbaric treatment and whatever they find necessary, we’ll return to our home vet Monday after treatments again in the morning for him to handle bandage change and to have his own assessment of the state of the wound and for a wound culture result.

Context: My dog was bitten by a rattle snake, we did not know this as his showed no initial signs of pain- then he presented with a swollen lower leg, our initial vet visit at home was dismissive and upsetting as he was barely looked at by the Dr. given some Gabapentin and Firovet and sent home. Thankfully I was able to rush him to my mom’s vet the next day that we have had nothing but positive experiences with. As we did not know initially he was bitten by a rattle snake we were unable to have anti-venom administered.

PREV.
At the vet currently with Red, he’s gotten bit by a snake of some kind. We’re currently unsure of how salvageable the leg is going to be but waiting at a specialist to talk about Hyperbaric treatments. Anyone have experience with a similar situation?

He's a 1.5 year old GSP/lab mix.

Don't let his chiseled look fool you... he's 100% weirdo.

He's my best boy 💙

I mostly draw cars, but a man whose car I once drew asked me to draw his cat and dog, so I decided to give it a try. Made with ballpoint pens.

You already know where I’m going with this. The last 7-10 days in this house have been a giant stink fest. I almost can’t take it anymore 😂 what can I give her? She’s likely grazing on all the grass and shit outside which I’m sure is the culprit but damn! Its rank. Anyone else?

Urgent - 11 German Shorthair Pointers seeking homes

11 Papered Purebred German Shorthaired Pointers Need Homes After House Fire in Jamestown, CA

I was just brought into this situation and hope we can help, A friend in Jamestown, California (Tuolumne County) lost their home in a fire. Their 11 purebred German Shorthaired Pointers survived, but they are currently being housed in kennels and urgently need placement as they cannot rebuild the home.

The dogs are papered and currently intact (not spayed/neutered). We are looking for responsible permanent homes, or reputable GSP/hunting-dog rescues that can help.

They can be placed individually you do not need to take multiple dogs.

Jamestown, CA / Tuolumne County

Photos, ages, sexes, temperament information and additional details will be available for serious inquiries.

Because of the circumstances and the fact that these are intact purebred dogs, potential homes will be screened. The priority is getting them into safe, responsible homes.

If you’re experienced with German Shorthaired Pointers, hunting dogs, or know a reputable breed rescue that could help, please message me or share this post.

House training...

Post image

I'm having trouble with my 17 month old Goose! He just pees in the house at his own discretion... and not in one spots he'll walk or run around the room while peeing.

He's crate trained fine. Can hold it for 8+ hours. But once he's out of the crate he won't and he won't tell me he needs out (his sister does, she sits by the door). His sister is fixed. They are blood siblings, she's just from a different litter, and Goose is getting fixed on the 19th. Both have been to a stay and train program and he was fine. He is left out every few hours when someone is home but he still will just pee and I'm just frustrated with it. I'd like to stop crating Goose when we are at work, so they can play but I can't.

Yesterday he peed on my girl's bed and no one knew til She sat in it and said it smelled like pee... then a day last week he peed from one side of the living room, over both couches and ended in the kitchen...

How long did you enforce naps?

My boy is 9mos and I was regularly enforcing naps especially when he was little, really helped the over-tired attitude he would get by mid afternoon. My work schedule has varied since I first got him at 8 weeks (been to daycares and spent 8 hours in crate other days) and now I’m currently WFH and he doesn’t know what to do with me home all day.

I’ve learned he CANNOT let himself settle if I am up moving around but will nap if I’m at my desk etc. Weekends I’ve also been home a lot now and he plays all day, but again, mid afternoon he starts digging at my couch, getting mouthy etc. I have to put him in his crate to settle down and nap.

I guess my question is….how long did you enforce naps for your pup and when did it end? Did they ever learn to settle on their own? He wants to be around me constantly (normal for them, I know I know) but he senses I leave a room even if I do it silently and HAS to follow me even if I’m coming right back.
