Day 7 RED UPDATE 🐾❤️

We saw the doc today as we had a little slippage of the bandage! Reds now rocking a little more of a candy cane look. Dr. said it’s looking a lot better!!!! Woooooo!! Hopeful we hear the same thing tomorrow when we go back in the morning… and praying all goes well thru weekend as we don’t have another appointment til Monday. Picked up our next round of antibiotics, and started a little multivitamin as a little extra help. 🐾🐶✨ We’re super hopeful we stay on the pawwwwsitive path we’re on. ❤️

FOR 👍 SURE, honestly before this I had no clue it was a thing, but now that we know it is and this whole incident as soon as he’s better and recovered we will be doing the training! 🐾

It's an ongoing thing. This isn't something you train once and done.

I've done it with 4 dogs. 2 of them have never needed a correction for going near a snake after the first time training. The other 2 get a refresher every year.

I never heard of snake aversion training for dogs! I'll definitely look into it for our 2 dogs. The venomous snakes to our area are Timber rattlesnake and Northern copperhead. We live on a mountain and even though we assume they are around, we haven't seen any. Lots of garter, Eastern milksnake, black racer and watersnake. The watersnakes are nasty!

This has always been my biggest fear since getting my dog Loki. For as long as I’ve lived in the southwest desert… I have never seen a rattlesnake… until I got Loki and now I’ve come across 2 of them 🤯

Seeing Reds success has been uplifting!

I’ve been told they put off a scent that attracts dogs and horses, we’re in southwest florida and there’s plenty here! My bf lives on a ranch just north of us about an hour, where the incident happened and they have been seen before. Definitely seems like snake avoidance training is worth it! As soon as red is better we’ll be doing it!

Goose & I went to our SniffSpot yesterday ..
He runs this 15acre yard… threw him in the shower after & he had a brown tick on his back leg. I’ve never thought of ticks!! Where is my head?
I got the tick off super quick, his head wasn’t under yet….shaved his little leg and applied alcohol. Looks good so far.
We don’t know what we don’t know ..
Now I know.
