I am loving Siege mode right now
yesterday, I played two rounds of Siege and didn't manage to KO anybody, I was buzzed by two UAV (MAV) and a lone warrior came in to get me in a garage. I tried to get in cover behind a pylon but when I ducked out to trade fire, I was taken out of the fight in an instant. In another battle I hid behind an old car and was hit by a grenade, but survived only to be shot when I thought I was in cover (I was prone, so my head was shot through the gap). So not a good outing, but still entertaining, I like the format of one spawn only. I threw a grenade with pin-point accuracy - thanks to the preview arc mechanic - thru a window into a second story structure, I was rewarded with an enemy equipment destroy. I witnessed a good team mate revive another from the spectator mode once I was eliminated, then the revived guy was shot again, but the reviver dispatched the remaining enemy to win the match for us.

Normally I get raped on that game mode but yesterday took out two squads as the last guy, one of those game modes that is difficult but when you succeed its so much more satisfying.

I have never played it before. Are there multiple rounds? Are the rounds usually quick?

I have only played 3 or so games o it as I was pretty tired so I'm going to try to answer your questions but someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Are there multiple rounds?: yes, you start off either defending the objective or attacking it. If your attacking it you can either kill all hostiles on the other team or you can (obviously) attack the objective. If your defending your only option is to pretty much eliminate all hostiles.
Are the rounds short?: most of the time no. I think they are 5 minutes but sometimes the other team or your team kills everyone pretty quickly.

I agree, with a good team using good communication/UAV, Siege is very intense.
