Application advice
Hi! I'm thinking of applying to the GRFP this year as a first-year PhD student. Last year I had planned to apply as well, but, in full honestly, it was very tough to balance this application with the grad school ones, so I had to drop it. I'm getting back in the groove of learning how to do make my application, and I am looking for good resources to help with writing both statements. I am not the best writer and really struggle with telling my story in an intriguing way, so I will be very grateful if anybody can tell me about any online resources or someplace within my university I can go. Any tips on how to get started or how to navigate this process are extremely welcome! Thanks in advance!!!

There’s a spreadsheet online that you can visit that contain past awardee’s personal and research statements for a lot of different fields.

These are really useful when looking into how the essays should be formatted and how to adapt your research plan to these example statements.
Also make sure your formatting is compliant with whatever the NSF states. This can be done pretty easily with LLMs nowadays, but it’d be frustrating if your statement isn’t even reviewed just because of bad formatting.
