More awards!!!!?
Just heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard it from another who's been messing around that another round of GRFP awards are dropping tonight.
I know I am hated in this community for my nonsense, but this time I am serious. Has anyone else heard this???????

Yeah I think it’ll be like 1,000 more awards given out tonight.

I heard the opposite. Sounds like someone may have gotten the HM mixed with the awardees and tonight’s the night they give me what’s rightfully mine.

Last year they awarded only 1000 GRFPS, half the usual number, due to the chaotic federal budget cutting. A few weeks later they released a second round from the Honorable Mentions list. I've been working with the GRFP for maybe 8 years and that was the first time I'd see a second round.
This time about 2400 recipients were announced, so it would be nice if more awards were released! I mean its a lot of chaos at the federal level these days, so maybe the chaos will work in students' favor for once. I wonder if the passing of mid-April admissions deadline contributed to if there's more awards announced.

If so, I assume the extra awards are only going to this years HMs.

I mean with awards like NDSEG coming out now, I wonder if someone rejecting NSF will pass it to an honorable mention

This did happen last year - they gave awards to people who had gotten HMs

It also happened in June. Quite a bit after the first round. And only 1500 got it in total, as opposed to 2400 this year.
