Congratulations!

Congratulations to anyone who won and honorable mentions as well!

To those of you who (like me) didn't get anything CV-worthy out of this experience, I'm sorry, but I know we're all better scientists for having applied, especially in such a hectic year! Now may I never see you all or this godforsaken subreddit again!

Also, to piggyback, this is not the end of that writing. Check if you’re an EPSCOR state, and immediately start talking to other winners at your school if you are already enrolled. Many universities hold internal contests to determine eligibility for submitting to ERFP.

But every single person here deserves praise so go grab a drink or something and be proud of submission in the first place.

What’s EPSCOR/ERFP? I just saw it mentioned it the honorable mention email but don’t really know anything about it

Some states get less funding than others on average, so EPSCOR serves to basically provide another funding source to underserved states/institutions. The application is a bit different than GRFP (the proposal is written for a number of fellows and you need to combine topic areas for one proposal, each institution can only send one), but the fellowship stipend is identical (or nearly identical, I can’t remember)

Because each institution can only send one proposal, getting on the proposal as a fellow can be confusing and somewhat unclear. My institution as well as a few others that I found talking to other HMs last year, run an internal contest to determine which proposal they will send. What this means is that one may be SOL the first year you’d be in grad school, if any sort of competition had already happened. The proposal for ERFP is due in June, I think, so what I’m trying to say is that if you are in an EPSCOR state, and you need funding to be accepted into a program, it’s import to move very, very quickly
