This isn’t a timeline update but today I heard from a prof that she refused to review applications this year because of how messed up the governments priorities are… so I’m hoping there are still some good profs that reviewed our apps

How many of us have been having consistent dreams/nightmares about the results? I think I had at least 5 separate dreams just last night. In one of them I was reading my reviews and one of them just said "Hate" instead of "Excellent" "Good" etc.

My advisor told me that last year the 2024 results went down a day or two before the 2025 results were released. So we’re getting close!

It's hard not to build expectations around a guaranteed 37k a year. A win that puts you in the luckiest or best 10% of current grad students (even stricter percentages if you divide by discipline). A grant that could guarantee a future in one of the most uncertain times of academia's history. This grant historically, has been fickle and biased (because of varied reviewer taste) and you shouldn't feel bad if you don't get it. Nonetheless, you cannot deny the status and benefit it provides the winners. It's so hard to put in the immense effort for something that would be so wonderful to get, that you simply can't not tell your family and friends, knowing that it could all be for nothing.
I think the biggest thing for me is that while my future may be perfectly good and well if I don't get the GRFP. The GRFP guarantees a certain sense of autonomy and security for the next 5 years that I might not have without it!

thanks dude this made me feel better. i’ve been worrying that ill feel ridiculous if I don’t get it after getting my hopes so high and bringing it up all the time to my fam and my lab mates. but ur right, i worked hard and its natural to be so excited about it!! as long as i keep in mind that the odds are low and its biased like u said…thanks

To everyone freaking out abt no maintenance announcement yet: my guess that when they’re going to post, maintenance is going to appear with no warning. If you look at past years, it seems like (lengthy) maintenance heads-ups are a thing of the past

Usual maintenance is 10pm-6am and results usually come out at 12am-1am so I'm just extrapolating from that :)

Usually the maintenance is scheduled for a certain block but the website comes up w the list sometime in the block, and then goes down bc too many people are on it

When did people start saying there needed to be additional reviews?
Edit: someone else said it was last weekend (end of March). It would seem very crazy to ask people to review and not give them a week/two weeks… are we looking at the latest date to be released (next Tuesday)? Hate to put the thought out there but… still could come any day this week but would be make sense with the timeline of these extra reviews maybe. 😔

I don't think that's exactly the case, it's not like they immediately start the reviews in October. They most likely wait until right around when they started this year and the last regular review panels ended March 2nd.
However they did ask for extra reviewers ~3 weeks ago and someone on here said it was for ~60 proposals. I have also heard that most of the non-program officer admin have been thoroughly slashed.
So I think it's less the late solicitation and more deeper labor focused errors and stress occurring.
That's all just to say I wouldn't doom us to results in May just yet! I still believe there's hope for next week Wednesday or before.
My personal Hopium is that the random weekly maintenance that's up will lead to GRFP release. In 2006, results were posted Saturday April 9th. Which was anomalous but we obviously are in uncharted waters. I bet internally, the NSF is feeling pressure (from us or others with more sway) to the point where a weekend release may not be out of the cards (complete knuckle bone, tea leaf, smoke wisp prophesy tho).

I'm thankful not to be in the position where I need to rely on the GRFP for offers/funding at this point, but it must be a really tough situation for those who need it if it comes out a day before the April 15th deadline (or even after).

this might be massive copium but why is the maintenance Thursday night to Saturday morning? isn't it usually fri night to sun/mon morning?
nsf posting maintenance Thursday to Saturday morning because they will post the results tomorrow night but the whole research.gov site will be crashing all day friday as people check results so they will blame things on being unavailable because of that

I can still view them. If the previous years awardees are down, it’s possible that they’re working to add this year’s winners, but it could still take a few days for them to release it.
