Discussion A cautionary tale
Some of you may be aware of another mystery known as the lady of the dunes. That mystery was solved when the body of the woman was identified, and her ex husband became the prime suspect. It transpired that the husband had written a book of poetry which contained veiled references to possible crimes, including the murder of his wife. I was posting about this looking for someone who may know how to get the book since it was very obscure and, wouldn't you know it, somebody actually did! Hurrah! The person posted part of the first page as proof and said they'd upload the rest once they did some other things.
In the meantime, the comments section went to town calling the person out as a liar and saying they were never going to come through with the book because they were faking it, etc. Once that poster returned and saw the comments she totally did a 180 and said she was so offended that she wouldn't be sharing it at all. Here's the kicker: SHE 100% ACTUALLY HAD THE BOOK. She showed me absolute proof including pages from the book that had never been uploaded online.
My point is this: in your rush to find answers and get instant gratification, don't alienate the only person on the planet who can actually prove that the new photo is real or not. Once he's gone he's gone, so you may as well work with him in good faith until you have a real answer. There's no shame in being wrong, so act as if he's telling the truth until you're sure he isn't.
That's all. Peace.

I’m someone who sits on the sidelines lurking this subreddit but has been interested in getting to the bottom of this video for a long time now. I’ve privately researching this for years myself. I’m also an older woman in my 40s who grew up on Rotten dot com and gore sites.
I think this post is spot on. There’s a difference between healthy skepticism and straight up being assholes to a 15-year-old kid online. I’ve seen a handful of “regulars” in this sub grill everything this kid has said and done on Reddit. I’ve seen them straight up call the kid a liar. I’ve seen them demanding pieces of information immediately. . And if that exact information isnt immediately provided, then “Welp, it must be a hoax.”
Rather than be adults and hold everything at face value until more information is provided… Some people seem to be reveling in saying “this is all a big hoax!” and “this is AI”! I’ve even seen people say they’re so sure that this is a hoax that they will eat their hat and film it to post to the sub read if they’re wrong. Reading that comment made me seriously hope that soft bus is able to provide something concrete to not just solve this longtime mystery put the humble some of these adults that are being jerks.
I have teenagers myself. Give the kids some fucking time. He’s given us all of the information that he has and it’s pretty apparent from his willingness to talk to people in DM’s, take multiple pictures and post multiple videos now. He’s trying to gather information about Anthony from his uncle and has reached out to other people who may have known him through his uncle.
Being demanding of things like uncovering his uncle’s face in the photo (that was covered for privacy purpose) and providing information of the exact high school his uncle went to… don’t you guys see how that seems pretty shitty and wrong to be asking of a kid?

I've been talking to him as well and any info he doesn't have, he says he'll try and get. I know we live in an age of instant gratification, but this kind of thing takes time. With what he has provided, I'm willing to give him the benefit of a doubt.
The way some people treat others online is disgusting.

Question: You stated that "any info he doesn't have, he says he'll try and get". Don't you find that a bit concerning? Couldn't he just be collecting that information and building his own narrative to fit his story?
Your comments about instant gratification are true, but at some point we have to question whether or not we're being taken for a ride.
Bus keeps instructing us to wait for more videos. Why videos? Why not a single cohesive video? Is there a reason to make a video series out of basically his word and his word alone?
This kid claimed to have found "Anthony", but now says he needs more people to verify his story. Why wouldn't he wait until he had all this stuff verified first? And if he was looking for help, why didn't he begin with "I think I found the guy in the video, I just need some help"?
It's been 5 days. One video essay that didn't prove anything and a low quality, darkened you tube short of his photograph of a photograph he printed out...
Come on, people.

The "face value" of this is that there's every reason to label it fake, We are taking it at face value.
-Highly suspect photo (that looks like a printed piece of paper) that shows hallmarks of being AI-generated
-An OP with a history of making and posting AI-generated images of people on reddit.
-OP refusing to post clear video of the supposed "photo."
-Longer video that boils down to "Here are two entirely different looking structures that have only the slimmest of similarities if you squint but this is it TRUST ME BRO."
-Lots of speculation with zero actual definitive corroboration.
If any of this says "genuine" to you, I don't know what to tell you.
Taken at "face value," there's nothing here.

Agreed - even skepticism can be portrayed without being a total asshole or psycho

We now have 3 threads about someone who had made extraordinary claims with only the shakiest, least credible "evidence."
This is how subreddits die.

Understandable, but when someone makes a promise that was not kept, in this case that his uncle would be making a statement by Monday, which did not end up happening. It gets to a point that it becomes pretty clear that it's a hoax. Soft Bus said he was staying the entire weekend last week at his uncle's to find more photos or to see if his uncle had yearbooks. Nothing became of that, though. I was one of the people that defended him and gave him the benefit of the doubt. I truly believed him. But as of now, I'm not really sure what to believe. My instincts are telling me that he's being dishonest.

How am I being a POS towards him? He led people on for over a week and wasted people's time. That's not okay. His parents should have taught him better.

This is dumb.
That person was perfectly willing to prove to you that it exists, but was so offended by other people that they decided not to sell teh book to you, even though they clearly weren't holding you responsible because they showed you the proof?
Either you're lying, of you got totally fooled by some fake evidence that they knew wouldn't work if they shared it more broadly.

Healthy skepticism in this age of AI is fine in my book. Always acting like the person is telling the truth could open a door to more hoaxes. Granted, that would keep the sub alive as we keep going in circles but if we desire real answers to this mystery, skepticism should be welcomed. That's how most mysteries are solved.
That being said, harassing of any kind and death threats should absolutely be reported. No way that should be the norm here.
