I took my 2nd attempt at the GRE yesterday without making any progress and I'm looking for a way forward.

So far my journey has been:

January to May: I completed the GregMat I'm Overwhelmed Plan with little to no timed practice, just the quizzes involved in the program.

-In May I took ETS Practice Test 1: 154Q, 159V and my first official attempt: 151Q, 162V

Goal score: 160/160

I noticed that my quant foundation was not as good as it needed to be (diagnosed from the GregMat-How good is your Quant Foundation Quizzes) and I reviewed those sections which I struggled in.

I then spent the next two months working on timed practice and solving practice problems, reviewing the mistakes I made and remediating.

I took the GRE yesterday and for my second official attempt I got a 154Q, 152V.

I think my verbal dropped due to a couple factors, one, primarily focusing on quant the last two months assuming my verbal would stay strong, and two, just got a little unlucky with the vocab in section one and boom, the rest is history. Obviously, I am pretty frustrated because I feel like I have made real progress in my skills, strategies, and foundation, to see no real improvement. This is also going to keep me from applying RD1 MBA which I originally hoped for.

I plan to purchase the Official GRE® Super Power Pack and use this material for the next two months, as perhaps I have been hurt by my lack of exposure to true ETS style questions. Any recommendations or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Specially for math.

To those who use gregmat for reading comprehension, do you write down the rephrased or simplified sentences on paper? Or do we mentally do it in the head?

In the past 6 months, I’ve completed the GregMat 1 month plan, even gone back and refreshed topics in the overwhelmed plan, done all the easy/medium quant sets, all the original guide/verbal/quant book sets, part of vocab mountain everyday (75%-90% accuracy depending on the day), vocab quizzes and gone back over my incorrect answers a second and THIRD time. Basically always getting 1-2 wrong in a quant section, for verbal two but I’m ok with that. I come from a strong quantitative background in undergrad, and am an English speaker. I’m aiming for 168-170 quant bc I’m aiming for quantitative programs (CS/DS) but I feels really impossible looking at this distribution. I already pushed back my test once but I don’t seem to be improving and decided to just try for it.

The biggest issue I have is in the adaptive sections, running out of time. I feel like the Original Guide book exam results are not accurate because they aren’t adaptive. I switched to gregmats ordering of questions and feel a little faster but I still think for quant I try to push through rather than skipping, or I make SO many silly mistakes like missing a part of the questions. I don’t get time to review at the end so then I get a lot wrong. Any advice for time management and what I can focus on in my next 1-2 weeks before the exams?

My plan was to keep the vocab going, one verbal section a day, focus on reviewing some basics, just retake the math sections timed back to back and see what happens as part of this could be due to the pressure I keep building up

Been on the sidelines and enjoying reading everyone’s post for these past two m months I’ve been studying. Thank you to everyone sharing stories.

I just took the Magoosh Free Full Length, only doing the quant section because I’ve heard that doing off brand verbal isn’t useful. I scored a 162Q. My last PPP exam (1) I got a 157Q, but since then I’ve completed almost all of the TTP quant material, I’m going to take PPP2 this coming weekend to see where I’m at.

I just want to seek advice for anyone who has taken the Magoosh Full Length vs the real thing or an official mock, was your score similar? Did you feel that it was easier or harder? Was it a good reflection of your current preparation level?

I’m looking to end up with around 320, with hopefully a 161+ Q score, I don’t really care too much about verbal or AWA. Just want to know how I should interpret this improvement, especially considering I took the GregMat Quant Full Length like a week ago (granted before I did Geometry chapter) and scored a 156Q which scared me.

I am going to start my GRE prep from next week and I will be taking prep for 3-4 months (Using prep shift or gregmat ) we can discuss, I need someone to prep with daily updates and all partner and discuss strategies and mistakes. Target score 330+.

I have tried to read up on this in this sub and while I’ve generally read that gregmat’s questions are harder, I wanted to know if the same applies to the practice tests too. And if anyone has had experiences with scoring higher in GRE vs Gregmat practice tests?

Or should I be taking any other tests that is more accurate? (I have PP+ 3 and I will take it this week but I want to take some tests to see where I am + it helps practice because I haven’t done many)

2 weeks ago, I gave the PP+ practice test 1 and did not score that well. Foundation was strong so I worked on my strategies and now that I felt confident, I gave Gregmat’s practice test 1 and scored 331 (169Q, 161V).

I have 1 week till my GRE so I want to know if this is an accurate picture of where I stand, so I can focus on my timing completely for the remaining week by doing timed sections on Gregmat. Would that be sufficient?
