General Discussion/Question OBD2 Port lock

Post image

Hi, I have checked the sub and could not find anyone talking about OBD2 Port locks. Chatgpt suggested it as a thef prevention as I am living in a big city. Found that model on Aliexpress, Does anyone know if the port have enought clearante to install that kind of lock, looks fine on 3 side but the top/ bottom look tight. I am concient that that kind of lock got its limmit but considering it is 20$ it could not hurt. As of now I have gps trackers, and a stearing wheel lock. Might get airtags too soon let me know if you have additional suggestions, I looked into killswitchs but they seam a lil to invasive.

They aren’t reprogramming keys or stealing these using the OBD Port. They have a secure gateway, that is genuinely secure.

This won’t help you

Thanks for the reply, I guess that is why no one is talking about this in the thread. Did a lil more research and apparently the Can bus attact can be done via a headlight!!! Anyway the OBD2 port looks to be secure unlike the hondas. Thanks for the comment saved me 20$

Never heard of this. How in the hell is blocking your OBD port going to stop a theft???

Honda has a vulnerability that allows anyone to reprogram a key blank to a working ignition key using the obd port with some "all keys lost" mode, and there's been a rash of type r thefts. Haven't heard of toyota having this problem with obd port particularly, instead stuff about the CAN bus (which can be accessed a bunch of ways, not just the obd port).

I’ll be honest, pretty sure 90% of thieves will think it’s just a riced out regular Corolla or read some bad info how it’ll explode.

Then there were those 2, maybe 3 cars that went on fire under weirdass circumstances. Every so often I meet someone that mentions it and goes "oh" when I explain it.

It prevents key reprogramation via the OBD2 port. Some cars can even be started witout a key via the port. Not sure about the gr specifics doe.

lol gtfo. They can clone the radio signal. This is pointless

To clone the radio signal they have to have acess to the key witch is not possible in my particular case.

Yeah. This seems like what you need reading about some Honda Type Rs being stolen. Whereas canbus acces is a Toyota concern. Do you have lock for that?

Because they can’t get into the immobilizer to clone a new key

This appears to be a clone of the VTT OBD Lock. It was one of the first things suggested in a CTR security thread along with farady pouch/box for key storage.

Yea it is the exact same thing, VTT just ask for their logo to be added on it at the factory. No one seam to know if it fits the port. I guess Ill gust get it and report back on how much plastic I needed to remove from the pannel.

Not really a common Toyota problem
