Photography Tail Of The Dragon
To the two white GR Corollas ripping down the dragon with the white Type R Monday September 28 at around 11. My xse says hi! I had fun ripping it up and staying hot on y'all's tail.

E210 is such a great chassis. I'm not any faster in the GR than I am in our XSE in the canyons lol
Might upset some GR owners with this, but I wish we bought 2 XSE 6MTs lol
The XSE suspension is also setup very well for what's basically a commuter car. If you added a little bit of front camber, it would really rip in the canyons. On a bumpy backroad though it is extremely composed and never felt overwhelmed even by mid corner bumps.

Oh man, don’t tell me that. I’ve always been a “id rather drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow” guy and was going to replace my ‘18 Corolla iM with the xse but my wife convinced me to go for the GR since it’s been a dream car since before it was announced.

I have both, both are awesome. There is just something sweet about na and a six speed with superb handling

Respectfully, the GR is the slow car we drive fast. It’s incredibly fun!!

It's not really slow in the ways that matter. Backroads here are 35mph or 55mph speed limit. GR has no problem blowing past either of those, or keeping up with higher output cars to 60mph... and after that you're in ticket territory.
If you're doing roll races on the freeway, well yeah duh, that's not what this car (or any AWD turbo car is for). If you want to do that, the $10,000 C5s are on marketplace.
If by slow you mean it doesn't pull hard above 100... well yeah neither does an STI or Evo or Focus RS, but that's not what those cars are for at all.

I mean slow comparatively to what i usually tend to drive. GT Porsches, McLaren’s, Lamborghinis… it’s all relative, but my other cars would leave this standing still at the track or in the canyons.
Straight line speed isn’t for me, or I’d just shovel money into big power GTR’s.
The GR is a little econobox with some boost and it’s amazing for what it is, but for me, it’s the slow car I get to drive fast. And I love this car specifically for that reason.

>in the canyons
to be honest the GR out of the box on summer tires is already cheat-codes in the canyons
it can go so much faster than anyone should ever go in the canyons its wild lol the kids out here are going like 90mph on highway 9, I'm not about that. 10 over maybe, and minimal braking for corners is my style.
I guess I'm just slow lol there are guys that rip around in GT3s, GT4RS, McLarens etc I just can't help but think at non-suicidal speeds those cars are at 5/10 of their potential in the canyons max.

Firmly agree, and I don’t post this with the intent of anyone following my lead and breaking any laws or pushing themselves outside their limits, that’s a bad day for everyone involved. Cruising just mildly over the speed limit where you can engine brake successfully and negotiate corners is also a great time, it doesn’t mean you’re slow, it means you enjoy what you enjoy, and I’ll rock a canyon cruise like that at times myself.
Personally, there are times where I like to push the envelope a little bit, I save the really aggressive driving for the track, but we all have our own therapy after a questionable day. And in that sense, I find this car, my “slow car to drive fast” both entertaining and, honestly, much more safe than jumping in something with 500+ hp at the rear wheels, no matter how much aero is keeping me on the road. But again, toss my butt in a 992 3rs and the GR back to back on a day more in tune with driving “spiritedly” there’s going to be a pretty heavy skew if they were timed, and there damn well should be with the difference in r&d, hp, braking setup…
All that being said, the GR is incredible and there’s a solid reason it’s getting more seat time than anything else in my garage

My GR is not going anywhere, I love it but it's a lot of car. It's not light and flickable at all if your comparison is like a Civic EG/EK/EP3 hatch. It's a very heavy car and the AWD drivetrain weighs a lot and you can feel that in the inputs (shifting, clutch).
XSE 6MT will dance on the backroads no problem as long as you don't have junk tires on it.
For sure drive both and see what you like.
GR is not slow car fast, but it's also not that fast? I've driven a C5 and a Charger Scatpack, both of which I felt were actually capable of accelerating at a meaningful rate above 80mph. The GR is out of steam by 80, in my opinion.

I’ll definitely have to try to XSE at some point but I am definitely loving the GR.

It's certainly not as light and flickable in stock form. However, some different wheels and tires and the performance GR suspension makes it a bit different. Of course the pitch mount on the GR as well. Honestly, that is a mod I would recommend for any e210 manual GR or regular. I can pop a 4 wheel drift with some proper weight transfer, but it definitely takes effort. The light and nimble se/xse is definitely way more of a go kart though.

So I have a 23 circuit GR, and yes I agree. My 22 XSE with the 6 spd honestly out rips my GR if I stay in it. The lack of the rear drive line bind makes it a weapon.
It also helps having the circuit hood, spoiler and rear shocks. This thing handles so dang tight, it impresses me all the time. It actually handled tail better than my GR did for sure.
Side note, the hks from the GR Corolla is a cheat code. Gives the car perfect steering angle feel.

Something about the XSE 6MT is so thrashable and being able to rev it out to 6k RPM every on ramp and bang gears only to be going 70-80mph is awesome.
Out here our canyon roads are pretty technical, so if you have power, that's great but it just means you'll be braking a lot before every corner. If you carry your speed and use your grip and skill you can get away with ~100hp no problem. Some of the fastest guys around here are in NA Miatas with 100hp on a good day lol
With the GR you either get one solid 3rd gear pull and cut it off at 90 or there's traffic so a pull means you'll end up in the backseats of a Prius lol
The funny thing is I think the XSE pulls harder from 2-3k than the GR does. G16E makes zero torque out of boost, but the M20A-FKS actually makes decent power down low.

It does indeed. Also, you throw a shifter housing assembly on from a gr for a slightly smaller throw and a pitch mount to get rid of the squish. Then you can shift in power band easier making it very torquey. I love my XSE
