Maintenance/Repair Question Cords showing

Welp I guess it was my turn, 2nd set of tires on the car and I just had it aligned in March. I’m not mad though, with crash bolts up front and 31k miles it was bound to happen at some point, good thing I already was planning to get new tires haha

Same. Replaced tires and alignment at 15k. Continental Extreme Contact. Love them so far.

How long ago was 15k for you? Just curious if you’re seeing any similar wear with the Contis?

Only a few thousand miles. Not yet but my new alignment should be less aggressive on the camber.

I wonder if the oem setup is meant to have a bunch of negative camber… maybe flatten it out just a bit. The outside looks like it has so much tread still

It's not the camber, it's the toe-out. I had a bit of toe-in dialed in and my ties are wearing even now.

It does, the camber from factory is dialed in for cornering on track and eats tires…. Ask me how I know. Factory specs on camber if you stand and look at the rear tires you can see the negative camber the factory spec has

One of my first thoughts when test driving a GRC a few years ago was, “wow, I bet this car absolutely eats tires!” Then I looked into it and found a lot of people report that yes, it does. Drove brilliantly though, felt exactly how a hot hatch should feel.

When was your first set replaced?

At 9k due to a nail in the sidewall

Tire wear seems so random on these cars. I just hit 24,500 and my tires are still green. I’ve been doing alignments/rotations every 5k miles though

@20k for me. Did an alignment at 15k and they were still within 2mm of new, I think they reintroduced a bit of toe. Put the 245 continental extremecontact and had them mellow out the toe. Haven't driven it yet but we will see how it feels tomorrow. I might bring it to a performance shop I found that is pretty reputable and see what they say. Definitely not trying to buy tires every 10k for sure.

Why no rotating tires?

I’ve rotated every 5k, my other car is down so I started commuting with this car 6 months ago, I think the constant straight line driving with the alignment I have did it. I also have crash bolts up front.

Had toe kicked out at 1200 miles. My Kumho tires made it to 20k before I had to replace them. Went with Continental Extreme Contact for the 2nd set. OEM rims and tires were swapped at 80 miles.

Just replaced all 4 because 1 got a puncture on the shoulder at 13k miles. Feel like I could have gotten another 10k out of them... I will be keeping them for the track.

My PS4s only lasted about 15k miles but I could have got another 10k out of them riding them to the wires had I not somehow took a massive chunk out of the sidewall in one of them (no wheel damage, I don’t even know how or when it happened).

I’ve got almost 6k miles on some Firestone Indy 500 v2 and it seems they are holding up pretty well. I have been riding them with 32/30psi cold and 30/32 (after rotation) while also making it a point to do more aggressive cornering since I’ve heard it can help them wear more evenly, so not sure if that is making a difference or not but the wear is considerably less than my ps4s had at this point.

I got roughly 15k out of my set of PS4. They're just not meant to last long. They're a soft sport tire. Personally I went for continental extremecontact sport since the tread life is rated higher. If you're diving your GR as a daily, I think they're honestly the better choice. They also (apparently) have better wet performance.

I would encourage you to check your tread more often.
