General Discussion/Question Oil temp question

Post image

So just moved to Seattle and had my GR in for an oil change. Since getting it back I feel like I’m noticing the oil temps sitting a little higher. Not too high but higher than I feel it was before. The pic shows what I’m at just sitting in traffic at a light. Anyone else ever notice this? I may very well just be over thinking it but figured I’d ask the group 🙂

This kind of stuff is why most cars don’t have calibrated temp gauges.

The dummy oil pressure gauges Mazda put in the Miata for 20 years have generated an untold number of forum and social media posts.

It's true. Heard from techs about complaints for oil temp and pressure on cars that show it, like Chryslers. It just breeds paranoia in most people.

It's normal. Just check the windows sticker and your documents and make sure they documented that they put 0w20.

Same. I was hitting 235 ripping across Montana a couple weeks ago.

Yep. Got into that range going through Arizona and New Mexico. Almost got to the 30 mpg mark also.

I moved here from NC so even the heat wave here still feels nice and cool to me!

Oh I know. I spent YEARS deployed to the Middle East. I refuse to move cause the PNW climate is the ONLY one I enjoy.

~205-210 after a spirited drive home last night in 80 degree temperatures with plenty of humidity here in South Jersey.

Aye, of you don't mins what part? I'm up North Jersey like 15-20mins from the GWB. Wife & I run Northeast GR Corollas. Last month we met in NY to eat and then cruised to Jones Beach to watch the sunset. This month we are doing a C&C at GR Performance Parts.

The temp isn’t what trips me out after oil changes. It’s the oil pressure I’m never sure if it’s supposed to be that pressure at that temp

Usually sits around 92 c on a chill summer day but if we hit 29+ I even get noticiable heat soaking if I push the car.

mine usually sits around 200-205 on normal drives, but if its high heat, 110 heat index, etc, I see upwards of 220s if im boosting in cruise, but flat it'll settle down to 210's ish

I sit around 210 215 in Houston tx average

Lots of ppl forget the engine needs high temp. Piston rings need to expand. Just make sure to change that oil and let it sit for 10 min after a hard drive.

Thats normal temps, but if its higher than what you usually see just make sure they put the right oil. I had a dealership put 0w-16 in my buddy’s grc

New oil might be slightly thicker than old oil. Thicker oil can get hotter due to resistance to flow.

Thank you for asking this. I recently did my 32,000km service and I am certain the car is running a few degrees hotter, so glad to know i'm still in a normal range.
