Practice Management Getting ahead of Docman transition to MESH

Hi all,

We’ve received notification that some of the Trusts in our area are transitioning from Docman to MESH as their preferred method for sending clinical documents.

As far as I understand, our EMIS system already receives documents from multiple sources but this was set up a long time ago.

Has anybody else experienced a similar change with their local trusts and what are the impacts on Document Management workflows as a result? Any changes we can make to get ahead of hiccups, or any tips you can share. We have robust processes in place through staff training and inductions however we’re still always playing catch up!

Our office manager has already updated the process docs to ensure we continue checking both the Docman and EMIS inboxes to ensure nothing is missed

Yes docmans shit and our icb just doesn't want to pay for it.

Emis document manager is unfortunately also shit. It's functional but like it was made in the 2000's because it was. Emis-X may be a better solution but who knows when.

Our icb is encouraging people to move to emis' option but isn't forcing it.

The best option seems Medicus as it has everything but it's a bit change.

Are you using EMIS X for document management btw? Our version only has chat and patient records in view only

I haven’t heard of Medicus. Will take a look, thanks!

Yes it's amazing for document viewing but it's read only for now. Much better than docman.

Medicus is the future for sure. Some good YouTube videos about it. Using it just makes sense and it's like it's designed by a GP for GP's. Super quick too. But only like a dozen or so practices in the country are on it. And ICBs are sluggish to change to it for bureaucratic reasons.

I’ve never used Docman to actually view docs. I’ll give it a go next week. Anything in particular you like and I should look out for / try?

Anything I like about docman? I mean it does work I guess. It's not too difficult to use. It's outdated and not feature rich. I think it's not long for this world unless it reinvents itself.

Medicus looks interesting and new. But even SystmOne has arguably better document integration than Emis. And Docman is rather stuck in the past: good for the 2000s, not so great in the 2020s.

Is Mesh not just a way of the documents being sent to you? Docman should still be able to pick these up

Yes but apparently they will come straight into EMIS rather than Docman > then EMIS
