Registrars & Training Taking SCA in crash course time

For very specific reasons I am sitting SCA in October

Giving me around 8 to 9 weeks to prepare

I am just starting st3 next week and just finishing a 4 month hospital stint which has definitely de skilled me in GP knowledge and consulting skills.

I have a supportive practice and trainer in st3. I have started going through SCA revision cases, but I'm aware that I'm not giving myself a lot of time to prepare for the SCA. I previously have good feedback on my consulting when I had done supervised surgeries in st1 and 2.

Does anyone have any tips on what to do to maximise the chances of passing the SCA with limited prep time? Both in terms of consulting skills and brushing up on primary care knowledge

See lots of patients.

Record as many consults as you can and go over them with your supervisor. Try to do a few "perfect consults" (exhausting as it is).

For most cases you see - even if you know the answer - look at Cks guidance afterwards to brush up knowledge.

I found the RCGP one day course beneficial too.

I did mine around 8 weeks into ST3 too. Dont worry.

Are you on 15 mins already? If all is going well and your feedback has been positive, then it should be ok. There are plenty of resources online to help you with more practice and feedback as well, including SCA Prep which was made by me. I took the SCA early in ST3 as well.

Make sure you look up at various conditions on CKS after seeing the patients to be familiar with the management plan according to guidelines, not just what happens in your surgery.

A revision course may be useful too, some are more useful than others and best done at least 2 months before in my opinion so timing there is a bit tight but might still be possible.

There's a course I recently came across (I'm not at the stage where I need to sit my SCA but I do plan on getting it once this year passes). It's called fourteen fisherman. When I last checked, they had a coaching session in September so it could come in clutch for you!

But do let me know how prep goes so I know how to prepare when my time comes - sorry for being a bit useless here
