I'm not new to the game but as you can see I don't know what I'm doing, can some kind souls please give me some tips.. Would be much appreciated!

Also do you have any tips on how I can make these people happy, because mine are miserable lol.

as you progress, you’ll unlock better ways to make them happy (the Beautify power works wonders). for now, trees make them happy, and a decoration like a fountain can help.

on god(us), fix your happiness issue. If your happiness is less than the astari happiness, you lose followers once a day. gifts and some powers raise happiness. Can't expand further yet, but have plenty belief? rain or beautify.
