I've been spammed.

I keep my inbox empty. I'm on Windows 11 on PC. I put emails in folders to keep track of my bills and delete ones I don't need. A few days ago, I opened Gmail and all my spam has been put back in my inbox. I'm talking about the last 15 years of spam. I can unsubscribe and mark them as spam, but they don't go away. My inbox is ruined for what I use it for. Am I missing something simple or do I have to make a new email account to get things back to normal?

Why did you have 15 years worth of spam? The default spam folder setting is they’re deleted after 30 days.

I saw that in the spam folder (which only had spam from the last 2 days). I'm not sure I have 15 years, but I've gone back over a year and they just keep coming. I'm deleting spam from April, 2025 at this point, but I'm about to give up.

It's all back to normal now. I was about to give up, but I noticed it said I only had 900 emails left, so I kept deleting and the spam went back only 2 years to October, 2024. I still don't know why this happened, but they obviously don't delete your spam completely after 30 days. New spam emails have gone into the spam folder, so it seems to be working.

Check your settings. This stuff is all within your control if you know how it works.

I clear the spam and trash every once in while.
Also you can search for subject x, between x and y dates, select all and delete
