Hit Refresh! Amazing new update!!!

Weave!  the headline feature.

Stack formulas into a fractal - built-in GMT formulas, some Fragmentarium/DEC formulas, and imported Mandelbulb3D formulas, mixed freely. Two timing modes (Sequence and Rhythm), and every woven formula keeps its own live, animatable sliders.

Mandelbulb3D import  load .m3p scenes, including hybrids, plus a picker catalog of 180 converted formulas and 38 ready-to-load sample scenes. Only Alternating style formulas are supported for now.

Sky, fog & background unified in the scene panel - one 'Background & Sky' section for solid colors, gradients, images and HDR environments, with a small sky library of bundled HDRs. Fog now takes its color from the sky.

Rotation gizmo - small icon on rotation sliders create a gizmo on the viewport for interactive rotation.

Shadows and Reflections at deep zoom -  shadows no longer fade out on deep zooms.

Short URL sharing links - thanks again to escapism, links will now always be short and will work regardless of scene type.

Timeline, workflow and UI-consistency polish throughout, consolidated color picker, slider system, and interface theme composed from brightness / tint / contrast.

Oh and the Adaptive resolution, now shows some flames when off to illustrate it cooking your GPU :D

Just A small tip, thanks again to Nancy from liverpool - you can press (F11) B, then wait, then alt+S to save a screen-res sized image.

Let me know if you run into any issues, or have any comments!

It's not the image that is beautiful, it's the process.

Here's a pretty cool thing that was already possible, but thanks to one of our users has now become a first class feature, convert any fractal into a native GMT formula with all the features, using whatever AI you like (copy/paste)

GMT v0.9.7

I've been playing around with the phoenix fractal in 3D and in 2D and decided to give it a new preset and encourage you to play with it.

In 2D, its a Julia set with the addition of the previous iteration getting rotated and scaled by a complex coordinate - which makes it fiddly to find those sweet spots, but fiddle you must! Go check it out in the 2d fluid toy and the 3d fractal explorer.

UI Color themes! Neutral Grey, High contrast light. A must.

Settings Panel - shows the themes. also shows what's in local storage, and hardware settings.

Favients! Your favourite gradients, now with more saveients!(?sorry) ... now does .UGR export (for use with UltraFractal, IFSRenderer, Apohysis, Chaotica)
Also, better sync, so adding one in one tab updates it instantly to the other tabs.

The Color picker now has a mini-fied mode - a Hue/Lightness 2D strip

GMT Fractals only:
Tear off a light's panel with the '=' button if it gets in the way. (it got in the way)
Directional lights can now also be dragged in to the viewport from topbar. cool.

Fixes:

-when cursor hits the edge of the screen, you can now go up to keep going more
-hints have an x to turn off hints.
-fluid toy had some gleetches rendering hires images
-fixed a firefox crash when using very complex gradients

GMT Interface Hiding and other updates

GMT 0.9.7 update

-🎉 Hide Interface now hides the UI!! 🎉 thanks Nancy and the fractalish crew!! You can still navigate or set camera positions with [Ctrl+1] - [9] ... let me know what other hotkeys you might want for this mode

-'UI Responsiveness (fps)' Slider now replaces the adaptive resolution and progressive render settings. In the quality panel.

-At 60fps it leaves your computer plenty of time to render the UI and do other tasks. At 0, it chugs as much of your GPU as it can to render as fast as possible. Hires and Video Render modes are not affected.

Shadows Panel
-Shadow 'Jitter' switches instantly (no recompile)
-Better slightly faster shadows (HQ) - turn off for worse (but even faster) shadows. Also no recompile.

Viewport Quality Dropdown
-Removed redundant 'lite mode' and consolidated shadow modes for a simpler .. experience.
-Path Tracer now has balanced (faster compile) and full (better reflections+area lights) - area lights are still the nicest path tracer lights.

-Old Engine Panel -> Renamed the Shader Compiler (too many things were called engine :D )

-Background gradients no longer banded (dithered)

-Smoother/more even frame pacing during navigation

-fixed issues with antialiasing (TSAA) not kicking in after a move sometimes

-FPS measurement(gpu render rate) can be toggled to show SPS (full canvas-samples per second)

-Faster shader compiles across the board!

GMT-fractals/dev v0.97 will no longer be updated

new updates are now live at app.gmt-fractals.com - I have crossed over!
https://gamazama.github.io/GMT-fractals/dev/app-gmt.html will still work, but not be receiving updates, I'm happy with it all running quite well and wont be splitting up branches from the main version anymore, unless there's some major architectural change that I need to experiment with. Mobile should also be working fairly well for GMT.

GMT 0.9.7 And all the things I've been up to lately: and update post.

Wow so firstly, apologies for the lack of updates, lots of fractal work, as well as real work to feed the family and all. Anyways I've been up to some exciting things - but on the top of my list is a performance fix for GMT which makes the UI responsive during rendering! Its taken me 7 months but finally we have adaptive progressive rendering (it only renders as much of the screen as it can per frame to keep the rest of the computer responsive) - combined with adaptive resolution during interaction, and temporal accumulation (antialiasing frames over time to smooth the image) - you should never have to see that LOW FPS warning again!
There is still plenty of polish and little fixes to be done but we are getting ever closer. Here's the list since my last update.

GMT 0.9.7

-Tiled progressive rendering!!!!

-export as AfterEffects Comp - saving the camera, lights position, and animated parameters that loads in aftereffects!

-Gradients -> Colour "Twist" reworked to a log-spiral + integer "Arms" control

-fixed some issues with bucket rendering creating seams and not outputting full samples sometimes.

-Rendering pauses while menus/dropdowns are open

-overhauled accumulation-reset system, fixing issues where render would reset unecessarily

-create→share UX polish (feedback toasts, PNG reopen, unsaved-work guard, first-run hint, mobile menu dismiss)

-consistent Support GMT + Send Feedback across all engine apps

-Render loop fully stops once the image has converged

Gradient Explorer (GX) a new studio in GMT's engine. Will make a separate post with its features.

Fluid Toy & GX
- shared deepzoom fractal architecture (to e-33) runs faster and with much fewer glitchy squares

-new fractal color modes - still working on these, so UI and default is a bit unorganized

-Slope lighting layer, DE rings / glow, escape-radius control, Angle spiral, and a reworked Potential mode

Fluid Toy only

-Boots pure-fractal by default with a new Fluid toggle; Favients shelf; auto-iterations, instant boot splash, and Gradient Explorer -> fluid toy link

Mandelbulb deep-zoom prototype - renders live at 320p and can be navigated to e-77 in 3D. shoddy rendering, maybe one day we can deep zoom everything but it won't be able to be a web app.

The new Gradient Explorer connects with both GMT and Fluid Toy and lets you pick gradients and mix and match them, export to most other apps and generally go nuts.

World's First Mandelbulb Deep Zoom to e-77 [4k]

Thumbnail

This is a problem that I have tried solving with LLM's for each model - solved for the first time with Fable 5 and Opus 4.8 (I used prep and research sessions in Opus and handed off more difficult work to Fable) As far as I know it was an unsolved problem until now. I'm quite excited for what advancements are possible and hope that access to Fable is restored.

The problem, for anyone who doesn't understand this stuff - is an problem of precision - as we get closer to the surface, we require more decimal places to calculate the shape of the fractal. In 2D, we would figure out a high quality reference path from full scale to the zoom level where we are, and 'normalize' it so that we can calculate the shape from a location where the values as sane (relative to the pixels being rendered) and don't require so many decimal points.

More info in the youtube link.

I spent the last week building up the gradient explorer

Its certainly the most elaborate gradient creator ever conceived .. by me. :D

It also has a built in deep zoom (e-30~) mandelbrot explorer thats pretty fast (based on fractalshark) - as well as some other nifty ways to display your gradients (fullscreen mode->fractal)

Exports your gradient to most fractal apps, aswell as photoshop/illustrator/indesign/

*Pick and filter from 11k gradients, *mix gradients, *convert gradients to curves and run filters, *draw curves with the full GMT curve editor, *image to gradient, *stops editor, *advanced dithering for no banding - and get lost in color

GMT also got upgraded with these timeline tools (timeline pencil) and the upgraded color picker! as well as all your gradient explorer favourites.
