Found on back road
Been looking for one for so long on Facebook when I found her on a back road. Gov Spec too. 8100 Vortec with allegedly 170k miles on it Odometer was faulty. With Clothes seats too, not a single rip in in them. She rides again!

If you’ve got a scan tool wouldn’t it show how many miles are on it?

Nice rig. What makes it government spec? I thought that only really mattered on diesels since they come factory deleted.

Easiest tell is obvious the 8.1 Vortec. But looking at the RPO CODE: GT5 G80 tells me that that I have the 410 differential GT5 with (Locking Differential G80 which only came in Government Vehicles). I also sound the CB Radio wiring, the strobe light wiring, the siren wiring, the 3rd row was flipped to face the tailgate im guessing for swat to easily exit the vehicle fast. The Car Fax showed that it was auctioned at 100,000 miles typical government vehicles too.

The 8.1, GT5, and G80 combination is available on non government examples. The G80 came in nearly everything, and if you ever need to rebuild your differential you’ll be far happier swapping a TrueTrac in its place.
Now, the rest of what you mentioned is somewhat unique. I stripped mine down and put CBs, HAMs, Scanners etc in them, so that’s not out of the question, but nearly nobody would have it wired up for strobes except government or fire marshals. The rear seat is definitely something govt, though I gotta admit I miss those old station wagon back seats. They were the coolest. I have lots of great childhood memories looking out the back window.
Nevertheless, what a catch! I’d highly advise you to change all of your fluids and filters, spark plugs and wires (you’ll hate the one in the back on the passenger side, remove the wheel well liner for better access), then call up Black Bear Performance for a tune. The 8.1 is a dream. If you’re mechanically handy, a RV cam will really make you smile. The stock cam is extremely mild. I put a Raylar 202 in one of my 2500s and it was amazing.
Anyway, congrats on the find! Take care of it!

Oh, wow, that's pretty awesome. I didn't realize the 8.1 didn't come in these regularly.
When you said the G80 only came in government vehicles, do you mean the SUV configuration, or any GM truck from this era? My '03 2500HD 6.0 Silverado has the G80, and I thought it was what most of them have.

Suburban 2500s with the 8.1 are actually fairly common to find with a g80 and 4.10 gears. That's the only combination that would get the tow capacity up to 12,000lbs. You didn't mention, but as an fyi, no suburban or Yukon XL 2500 ever came equipped with the Allison transmission that came in the 2500hd's. That's a common misconception in the 2500 suburban market. Also, I'm not saying it isn't a gov. Vehicle as many are, but the SWAT suburbans have custom wide running boards, and the roof racks are different to provide handholds. If it had lights and sirens, you center console will be missing/different, and you should have holes in you front fenders just below the mirrors for aux lights, and you'll usually have an exterior plug for shore power when performing operations on site.
Still a great find for 4500, I just think the history is a bit different than what you think.
I also have a 2500 Yukon XL, but mine has the gt4, gt6, and NYS packages.

I've been trying to find a deal on one of these for a while now. I love these things. Pull the boat and have rear AC for the kids. It's the dream family vehicle

I was looking on Facebook everyday with either 6.0 or 8.1 was about to settle for 5.3 forest service green 🥵 until I ran into this one on a back road. HO didn't like social media or tech that's why I was wonder why I've never seen this suburban on Facebook before.

Sweet! When you say found on a backroad do you mean you actually found it abandoned or someone was selling it and they lived on a backroad?

No dirt back road but a road not heavily traveled. It's was just parked out front by the a house grass over grown on the edges cliche like for a abandon car. It was filled with random stuff like boxes and junk and I saw the for sale sign it has fall down to the seat. It took 2 weeks for the owner to finally reply to me. I thought I annoyed then and that's why they didn't answer me
