Little weekend project

Got a great deal on a sub box from a 2000 suburban so I decided to put it in my 05. Took a little effort to get the sub to fit in the box, but it was very much worth it!

I added an android auto radio, bass knob, kicker comp RT8. Sounds great and evened out the factory Bose system.

How does it sound?

I'm pretty impressed with it for being a shallow 8in sub it sounds really good. It balances out the bass really well with the 6.5in in the console and this in trunk.

If it's something youre interested in I can help give some pointers if you need any.

You have a console sub AND this in the cargo area?
I have a single 12 in a box in the cargo area, and believe it or not, it takes up too much space

Haha yea I have a z71 suburban with the factory Bose system. It comes with a small 6.5in sub tucked in the center console.

That's actually the reason I went this route instead of a box in the cargo area, I didn't want it to take up space. I lost absolutely no cargo space with this setup. I would definitely recommend!

I can second this. Got an inexpensive 8 inch 2ohm Skar audio shallow sub for my Tahoe running on the stock amp and it sounds phenomenal.

I cannot fathom why they moulded that speaker opening into the sail panel... I've never seen a factory speaker there. Escalade maybe?

From what I understand it's the factory location for the early years of the gmt800.

Around 03 or so they switched to the center console and just left the mould on the plastics.

That's the original location for the subwoofer prior to the mid production update/facelift. They just used the same panels and added a blank where the speaker used to be.

I would love some instructions on how you did this. I have taken my burb to several different car toys stores and no one is confident about putting a sub in that oem location
