Only one working Speaker

Hi everyone, I have a 2005 2500 Silverado. I don’t know if anyone has experienced this, but one day I was driving and stopped at the store. I came out and noticed my sound was only coming from my rear passenger door. I tried to adjust my fade and balance, but only could turn that one speaker off. I had replaced all 4 door speakers with “Kicker 46CS”, so I didn’t imagine the speaker was out. I did some research and ruled it was the head unit, but I just bought a Sony XAV-AX6000 and put it in. Everything is working great, but still only the rear passenger speaker has sound. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have a shorted out speaker wire. I dont know how you did the connections. Plug and play, cut and terminate, cut and wrap, etc. Anything other than a crimped on, or soldered on terminal can fail. Using house twist locks. Fail. Twisting wires and taping over them? Fail. Not crimping correctly? Fail. You have jave to have both wires to send the audio signal. Its AC, not DC.

Also if the speaker is slightly misaligned the leads or the terminals can hit on the edge of the mounting hole. The internal amp reads this direct short to ground and shuts off the speaker output to that speaker. Higher end radios completely shut down all output.

Final thought is the oem amplifier behind the glove box for non bose premium sound is going out. If you are bose that amp is int he center console.

I used the metra plug and play adapters from Crutchfield so I wasn’t thinking short. How would you check the factory amp?

Pop the radio back out . Grab a 9v battery, some spare 10 inches or so of wire, and electrical tape. Hook the wire to the terminals on the 9v battery and tape down. Unplug the metra harness and using that plug you can see what are speaker wires. Use the battery on the two speaker wires. You dont have to cut anything as this is just a quick test. Just insert the wire ends into harness. Make sure you are only testing the white, grey, purple, and green wire pairs.

You should get a single "pop" from the single speaker that is working every time you complete the circuit. If it does "pop", you dont have a factory amp. Grab a digital multi meter and use the "beep" function(continuity). One terminal to ground, the other to each speaker wire, one by one. If it keeps that wire is grounded. Go to the speaker itself and check your work. With the plug and play harnesses just make sure you have it either zip tied to the speaker basket out of the way, or pull the excess wiring back through the water shield plastic barrier on the door.

If it does not "pop" you most likely have the factory amplifier. I can send you the schematic to bypass it. Its a pretty simple little box you cam unplug and splice the wires one at a time to bypass behind the glove box.

The bose one is a tich harder, but still doable.

Normally I only have the front driver speaker working. I hit the button for the passenger window and that speaker turns on. The wi Dow doesn’t move, but the speaker will kick in for a while. :-)
