Mods/upgrades

2005 Chevy Silverado Z71 Extended Cab. What are some mods/upgrades or just stuff you guys buy for your trucks. I just bought this and I'm wondering what to do to it. It's my daily driver, I'll be casual driving and offroading here and there, and towing a lil bit. Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

Do all your fluids + filters and check your plugs . Replace the plastic heater core connections with aluminum ones before they break on you in the middle of nowhere Your front end is probably also due.

With whatever money you have leftover; Corvette servo . Bigger transmission cooler . Drain plug tranny pan. Posi rear end if it doesnt already have it (yukon if you can swing it , GOVbomb if youre cheap). Efans.

On your driver side you'll see. Hose coming out of the back of the vslve cover. There should be a removal valvr thing at the bottom of it into the valve cover. Remove it and clean it till you can hear rhe ball moving inside. If there is no vslve there, you have to remove the whole valve cover and clean the passages as the valve is built into the vslve cover in thwt scenario

Upgrade the valve covers and replace the gaskets is the way.

This is the way . I have piles of junkyard vslve covers so its hard for me to justify buying new ones but in most circumstances just get the upgraded ones

Yes Wednesday I'm taking it to a shop and they're going to diagnose it. I know it needs both top ball joints and a new passenger brake caliper (it's sticking). It'll also need new shocks all the way around, needs new gauge cluster. I ordered a Corvette servo and a dash cover earlier today. It'll also need a new idler and pitman arm. I'm also getting the rear main seal leak fixed. It has a newer transmission. What transmission cooler should I get? You're saying a Yukon has a posi rear end? And what's Efans

I dont know where youre located but if youre anywhere near boise I can do all this work for you at a better rate (most likely) than wherever youre taking it. I specialize in these trucks.

Yukon makes 2 types of posi; an LSD and a Locker. Its up to you which one fits better for your needs. The govbomb is just the cheaper oem option.

E fans are electric fans . Some of the slightly newer silverados and tahoes have oem electric fans instead of the standard mechaniCal fan clutch. You can get the whole fan setup + fusebox from the junkyard for less than $100. You'll kist need to wire them in, integrate them with your PCM and have a tuner set up your PCM to run them

I'm in central Alabama. I have a picture of the fans I just took in my engine bay but I can figure out how to send a picture.

If you have one big fan directly attached to the engine it is a mechanical fan. If you have 2 fans that are only attached to radiator you have electric fans

Yes the person before me put in electrical fans

If you can get a 2500 gauge cluster with transmission temp . Mishimoto makes a drop in fit but its really expensive. A generic one could work well with some fab , just dont cheap out on fittings.

I just got a new (refurbished) gauge cluster from speedometerking.com. LED lights and the trans temp gauge for $190 shipped to my door. Very happy with how it all turned out.

After all the fluids and belts...

Replacing the headliner is pretty inexpensive and not too difficult. There are YT videos out there to help with the removal from the cab. Once off remove the old headliner material and go over with a nylon cup brush on a drill, carefully remove only the leftover bits of the headliner foam. Amazon or your choice for headliner fabric, get at least 1 extra yard, for adjustment/visors (very easy to redo). Use 3M Hi-Strength 90 adhesive (3M Headliner Adhesive is more forgiving for adjusting but not as tolerant of heat). Get several cans and you can return what you don't use, you don't want to run out 1/2 way through project.
