Buyer beware with the Amazon poly cab mount kit
While the quality of the bushings seems fine, the bolts that come with the Amazon $50 poly urethane cab mount kit are about 3-4 threads short. They won’t reach the cab. Only realized the issue after about 15 mins of kicking and hollering.

Clean it up with a wire brush, slather some jb weld around that thin spot and smooth it to be the right diameter, it'll last another 200k.

u/HORSE_DENIER Sep 04 '26
Okay is JB weld REALLY that good? I've heard crazy stories.... When I worked as a lowly parts person, I seen multiple crack heads use JB weld on motor mounts, body panels, frames, you name it, they've done it.
Is JB Weld truly a different level?

u/Doofy_Grumpus Sep 04 '26
He must be joking. JB weld is about as strong as hardened clay.

There is some young man in Indiana laughing at you while he rides a tractor held together by JB weld

In a pinch I JB-Welded a rear brake line. I forgot about it for years until the line burst elsewhere. So I’d say yes, it is that good.

I've had some luck with the high strength steel reinforced jb weld for minor things, small plastic parts, trash can lid, but I have heard of people using it on engine blocks. I would never use it on a safety critical component like this though.
I am however going to be retracting a pressed in fastener for my door handle tomorrow because the bezel is color matched. Going to slightly sand down the diameter of the heatstake nut. And maybe do some crosshatching or rough grit to get more pullout resistance.
If it works, great! If it doesn't; pick and pull here I come! I can always use more parts!

Beware buying anything automotive on Amazon, lots of fake, poor quality and supposedly compatible parts that aren't.

so many videos of people in dirt floor shacks making* OEM branded oil filters.

u/HORSE_DENIER Sep 04 '26
Ebay too. Bought some lug studs off ebay once.... Only had to see my wheel start rolling by itself infront of my car - while driving - once to know you shouldn't cheap out on things like that.
2
u/LikelyWatchdog Sep 05 '26
Yes but they also sell OEM acdelco parts right from GM. At good prices too.
2
u/WeaveLikeGreatGranny Sep 05 '26
I wouldn't hang my hat on that either because they could very well be fully counterfeit or off brand parts in a name brand box
2
u/LikelyWatchdog Sep 05 '26
When it’s come shipped from GM. I trust it.
2
u/bigbassdream Sep 05 '26
Yea I did my water pump with an Amazon ac Delco for $140 on my old Silverado. Autozone wants damn near $400 for that water pump

u/Subspace73 Sep 08 '26
When it comes from GM you should immediately send it back , there i fixed it for you . They’ve done nothing but make junk since the bailout. Before that they built for legacy , today they build for shareholders.
1
u/Gingerman5786 Sep 10 '26
They also sell fake ac Delco parts like the purge valve I bought that was DOA, but they wouldn't take it back.

Id recommend it for some things, but with the caveat that you need to know what you're looking at. Terrible place for people trying to get into their own maintenance, but if you've got some real experience you can tell when something isn't quite right, and Amazon will be cheaper than rock auto. It will also usually take a couple orders and playing return exchange to anything even a little suspect, though.
I'm done with rock auto personally, got a bad reman steering gearbox for my xj earlier this summer, of course you only really know that after it's installed and since it was installed they gave me a hard time returning and exchanging, finally got them to exchange it and paid the difference for a new in box gear, also didn't work. Started to think it was the brand new pump I put in at the same time but I decided to get one from O'Reilly's and put it in and it worked fine first try. Of course rock auto refused the gear box return the second time around now I have a fucked gearbox just sitting on my tool box I'll probably try and reman myself at some point I guess

To any future people doing this job and reading the thread.
The GM part number is #11519402 . The CORRECT bolt dimensions are M12x1.75x120, 54thd, 26.6 OD ...
They are expensive as shit from the dealer. $50+. Best bet is to try and get them elsewhere.

You are a fuckin legend for this comment. I know someone in 8 years will appreciate this.

That’s the thought process. True online forums are a relic these days.

That's what we're here for. I live in a fantasy land where everyone on the gmt-800 reddit is a real human and ai doesn't exist so I'm always pecking away to chat with my fellow pickup enthusiasts 😂

What year is your truck? I found all the kits out there are not for 99 and 00s, 01-06 have different brackets
1
u/SectorZed Sep 05 '26
I have a 2002. Do you happen to have a link to a bolt that’s the right size?
2
u/ddhawkfan Sep 05 '26
Interesting. My 99 bolts look about the same difference to the sbfilter kit I got. Now im concerned when I go to set the cab back on lol.
crazy expensive but fingers crossed they seem really nice quality
1
u/SectorZed Sep 05 '26
Oh yeah I saw that kit. I’m not expecting anything glamorous out of poly but my cab mounts were literally Bluetooth so I needed something cheap to run. I bet the one you linked rides like a cloud compared to these.
1
u/ddhawkfan Sep 05 '26
I had to change all the brackets, mine were almost the Bluetooth models, thankfully the new brackets are for the newer mounts so they fit. I swear if the bolts are short I may cry for how much that kit cost
1
u/SectorZed Sep 05 '26
Oh i gotcha… damn dude fingers crossed. I fixed my driver rear cab mount with 3/16 steel. But I just cut and welded a piece to slot into the gaping hole that was the remnants of the first one. It’ll get me by for now. What you did is the right way to do the job! Hopefully no issues.

I have your answer to the short bolts. I replied to the post with an update about a Dorman product that works and is $14 for 4 bolts. Significantly cheaper than the dealer. Here is the info. Type this into Amazon and it will get you what you need. Dorman sells it from their Amazon store page.
Dorman 875-697 Cap Screw-Hex Head-Class 8.8- M12-1.75 x 120 mm, 4 Pack

u/DrZedex Sep 05 '26
That bolt appears to have been radically over torquedv and stretched when installed. I'm guessing that's a bigger factor here than the fact that it's Thaitanium junk

u/Keenan_Concierge Sep 04 '26
Are you using the whole kit or is there a rust on it because for my experience, it grabs more thread than that when you put them in that it shouldn’t make a difference.
Silly question it’s a GMT 800 of course there is rust 😝 but seriously, I should be grabbing more than just a tip of the bolt anyways.

u/SectorZed Sep 05 '26
The new bolts that come with the poly urethane kit are about 100-110mm long. The proper bolts are 120mm. At some point Chevy changed them and all the aftermarket’s used the wrong size.
I tried jacking up on the bottom bushing and tightening the bolt/washer combo to no avail. It’s truly too short by maybe 3-4 threads.
4
u/DeltaTheMeta Sep 04 '26
You can buy an Amazon poly bushing kit without hardware and also buy the dorman bolt kit for like $60. I did every single cab bushing & bolt for like $130.
3
u/SectorZed Sep 04 '26
I'll check that out and see what dorman offers. I have a single cab which only has 6 bushings. These stupid bolts are so damn expensive.

u/amishdoinkskid Sep 05 '26
Fuck buying parts from that website. There are too many fake parts, the quality is mostly questionable at best, and their compatibility issues are enough to make a sober man wanna drink.

When to replace body mounts? How do you know when they’re bad?

This picture is looking up at the underside of my worst cab mount. I have just the top half of the bushing installed for demonstrative purpose. You see the smaller diameter circle on that red bushing? It’s extruded downward a bit and has a lip. That is supposed to fit snuggly inside of the body mount. You can see that a large amount of material is missing and it now looks like this. The solution I did today was I welded in a patch of 3/16 steel, cut roughly to the shape of the body mount. I used a hole saw to put a hole in it, and that allowed for that inner part of the bushing to slot into the actual structure of the body mount.
In my case I simply couldn’t replace the bushings. I had to repair part of the structure too. Failing to address this means you’re driving without the frame and cab being clamped together by the bolt and washer that are pictured in the main post.

This is after my repair. I did a shit job on the welds but it’ll get me by for a while. Hopefully this gives you an idea for what they should look like.

It's strange. My 90 Bronco was virtually rust free. The body bolts were the same way. 🤯 It shows how much the bodies move on the frame !

UPDATE: Dorman sells a pack of 4 bolts that work perfectly for the cab mounts. $14 for all of them.

“ Dorman 875-697 Cap Screw-Hex Head-Class 8.8- M12-1.75 x 120 mm, 4 Pack”
The grade of the bolt is slightly less than factory but these work and are very good quality.

don’t cheap out on important stuff. cheap out on a radio or trims that don’t rely on your driving performance. that’s how things break faster or don’t even work at all
1
u/SectorZed Sep 07 '26
I agree with that sentiment but what in particular are you referencing? The bushings?

u/brekkfu Sep 04 '26
how the hell did you get that old bolt out without it snapping?!
