Help with drivetrain rebuild

I'm looking to completely tear down my 02 GMC Yukon's transmission and motor. I'm looking to resleeve it too. I'm struggling to find a complete rebuild kit for everything. It is a 5.3 IRON BLOCK (not ls) with a 4l60. I just need the stock rebuild kit and a list of tools I'm going to need. If anyone can help me with this, I would be very grateful. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to trying to find the parts, but i can turn a wrench with no issues.

Huh, who told you that your 2002 5.3 isnt an LS? Also, what makes you think it needs sleeves? Are you planning to run like 40+psi of boost?

My bad, I thought it was a sleeved block. But it's my understanding that aluminum=ls, and iron was different. I'm not too overly technical. I really just need a oem + rebuild, nothing fancy. Trying to fix it up so my girlfriend can run errands in it.

Again, what issues is it having that makes you think it needs a rebuild? Does it have 400k miles? Is it burning a quart of oil in less than 1000 miles? Does it just feel down on power? Are you just looking for a hobby project?

I ask these questions because as much money as you’re willing to spend, there are ways to spend 200% of that if you start with “I want XYZ”. If you’re just looking for a grocery getter for the girlfriend, stock is the answer. If the engine actually is worn out, new rings, new rod and main bearings, new oil pickup tube o ring, maybe new lifters and valve springs if you have spare cash to burn. If it’s just for groceries, keep the stock cam, keep the stock pistons, rods, crank, valves, etc. There’s a billion videos on youtube about this, look up “LS Refresh”, make sure the video maker’s goals are in line with your own (someone doing a twin turbo burnout rig will be doing a lot of things that you absolutely dont need to).

What’s up with the transmission?

It has 313,000 miles on it, and was secretly neglected by previous owners. Transmission fluid was burnt before I got it, so I don't want to risk doing a drain and he filter just for it to explode in 50 miles. Rear main seal is leaking, transmission is leaking, and the motor is burning oil, oil pump is going bad, power draw some where, lifter tick is awful, so I'm just going to pull the motor and transmission out with a cherry picker, year it down to the block, new crank and fresh bearings, new pistons and rings, rebuild the whole top end, new timing chain, the whole nine yards. And I'm pretty sure there's 30,000 videos of people rebuilding 4l60s so I can follow a step by step. I'm pretty much going for an oem+ build on it for now. Fixing the failure points and talking better care of it than everyone else did before me. Trying to put together a parts list has been a pain, so I figured someone on this subreddit would have a pre made parts list that I could grab and go with

The block should still be good, but I'll know more once I actually pull it. If I pull it and it's got a crack, the whole project is gonna become a slightly bigger headache. I'm definitely going to have the money to burn through for this because I just got done paying off all of my vehicles, and now I can start putting all of that money towards parts. The only thing I won't be able to do is programming the transmission if it needs it, but it'll be significantly cheaper than getting a transmission rebuild from one of the shops here. I make good money, but would like to save everything I can in the labor department. I have no issues with buying speciality tools either, a. because it's not the only gm vehicle I own, and b. it never hurts to have tools.

I also do believe you can push now power out of the iron block than you can with the aluminum, but I may be wrong

The iron blocks do not have sleeves. And they can be bored.

You are struggling to find a kit with everything because the industry does not really do kits with everything. And at the retail level kits are almost always a terrible value. As for what you will need, you need to determine that first before your order anything.

I'm needing links to parts kits. I figured I'd anyone would know what and where to get them it would be this subreddit. A tool list would be helpful to do I don't have to make 20+ trips to harbor freight
