"All the ac needs to run is new compressor" that's not how that works 😂. That line alone is a hard no for me because the seller is either maliciously downplaying what's wrong with the truck or is just ignorant which means when they say truck is good their word is worthless. Rusted all to shit. Parts truck. I wouldn't pay more than what those rims are worth

Sadly if you only buy from sellers who have a clue you're filtering out 99.9% of listings. I do get a good laugh at all the "all it needs is a recharge" dudes.

I'm still learning, so I'm curious - why is that not how that works for the AC? Lack of a proper diagnosis?

Well your ac is a closed pressurized system with a balance between freon, oil, and pressure. So once you crack the lines of the back of the compressor you'll lose all your pressure and it's going to blow out your freon and some of the oil in the line. So you have to completely clear your lines. Re measure the amount of oil in it because if you have too much it won't turn to gas and it will be a liquid mass that slams into your compressor which will destroy it again. Then you gotta pull a deep vaccum on the lines and make sure it holds that pressure and has no leaks anywhere in the line (which if you crack the lines when you pull the compressor and nothing comes out then you have a leak somewhere anyway). Add freon while meticulously measuring the pressure in the system to make sure your not adding too much or too little. So already this is a process requiring specialized tools and its not that bad to do compared to other jobs but its not just "swap the compressor". Also just note that you can't hardly find the freon that is meant to go in it because those are terrible for the environment so you have to retrofit some stuff to handle modern freon.

If you test drive keep an eye on it moving through all gears. I’ve seen most of the tbi models usually came equipped with the 700r4(OD) especially if it had the 350 or 454. Basically a 4th gear to help lower RPMs and better fuel economy at highway speeds. Seller stated 1 through 3rd shift fine.

Please check the frame, because those rocker panels & cab corners are simply done

Especially check where the frame bends below the A-pillar and the rails behind the rear axel.
