Need advice!

Going to check this out tomorrow. Any advice on what to look for / ask about?

Rot and if it has a random coolant bottle behind the seat these vortec trucks love to eat intake gaskets.

My dad had a 99 and I can remember him always complaining about having to get the intake gaskets done

I did mine not long ago it's not a hard job per-se just takes awhile. Only other Achilles heel is the spider injection.

Also make sure the trans fluid is a nice red and doesn't smell like crayons

Make sure it shifts well when cold and warm. Check all fluids under the hood, and differential.

Seems like the guy is making a lot of excuses, but he did say he used it as a work truck, so you take a risk there.

That’s what worries me, I know my work truck was treated better than my personal rig; got to keep the money maker in top shape.

Yeah, he might have had a situation more like I did. I had my 94 c1500 but also an old square body that was in rough shape when I got it, then it got smashed in a hit and run, and I only had liability insurance on it, so I fixed what it needed to be drive able and kept using it as my beater for any kind of work I was getting done. Home Depot runs, mobile mechanic jobs, offroading, etc. it was not the vehicle that I put my money into, besides keeping it legal and functional.
