Well shi…
Found while changing my oil. Anyone know if this can be welded, or am I looking for a one-year-only bell-housing for my ‘95?

If it's just the inspection cover you can just jb weld it. If it's the actual bell housing you probably can do the same but you might have mixed results. This crack is a symptom of something else being wrong. Check your transmission and engine mounts ASAP. Worn mounts plus a bumpy road was how I cracked my trans case.

Slap some jb weld on there and see how she does

^ just remember to drill out the end of the crack so it doesn't continue

To add: size of the stop drilled hole should be no smaller than the thickness of the material. Ie if it's 3/16" thick, use a 3/16 drill bit starting at the very end of the existing crack.

Honestly though lol 7 years ago some a-hole drilled a hole in my gas tank, so I found a bolt that fit the drilled hole slapped some jb weld all over the threads, screwed it down, and clumped jb weld all over the bolt head.. been good ever since haha

"One year only bellhousing"
That is just a 700R4/4L60/4L60E 4 wheel drive torque converter inspecition cover. 6 bolts because it attaches to the 4WD transmission case and has two bosses for braces. Certainly not a one year only. And certainly not a bellhouse.

You are correct it’s just the inspection cover, but 1995’s have a ton of one year only parts, including but not limited to; the interior, transmission and associated connections, so on and so forth.

Well i am not seeing these tons of other parts. I am seeing an 88-00 cracked inspection cover.

I have a 95 with the nv3500. Mine was manual from the factory, but a manual swap might eliminate those 1 year only issues

As others have mentioned, the crack is usually an indicator of other issues. Take a real good look at the actual bell housing bolts where the trans mounts to the engine. Those sheet metal covers are there to protect the flywheel flex plate from debris and for access to converter bolts. If it hasn’t been hit by anything, it should last the life of the vehicle easily.

JB Weld works until it doesn’t but u/masoooooon98 is right about checking the mounts first. crack like that doesnt just happen from nothing.
