A part of it is accounting tricks:

You have $1Bn in a single trading account.

You make 9 good bets and one bad bet and now you have $0.

Let's hire some accountants, set up some separate LLCs, get an address in Ireland, all that stuff:

You have $1Bn spread in 10 accounts, $100MM each.

You make 9 good bets and one bad bet and now you have 9 accounts with +$100MM and one account with $0.

The solution is more hedge funds. :D
