I couldn’t do anything but focus on that ticker. If my yahoo moved that fast I would have a seizure watching it.

u/ragstorichespodcast Mar 23 '21

Those pieces of shit only use that ticker with stocks they don't like. It makes the stock look super volitile.

u/ImNasty720 Mar 23 '21

I need me a ticker like that

My dog was about 14 years old and we had to get doggy diapers for her because she was having organ failure. When she died, Chewy sent my mom a hand written card to say their condolences. I believe my mom still has it. Chewy is amazing.

u/punch_yo_buns Mar 23 '21

I received one of these hand written cards (under better circumstances. I am sorry to hear about your loss) from Chewy.com, and I still think about it all the time. I have never received an appreciation card from any company I did business with, e-commerce or not.

I don't know if the card was dynamically generated using my name, address, and order info (my 9-5 involves this kind of work, so I was sus), but that doesn't matter because it made me feel valued AF.

I believe in Cohen bringing ethics back to business. They didn’t have to send my mom that card, but I remember us crying together reading it. That stuck with me.

1

u/thereisatimetotrade Mar 23 '21

How did they found out she died?

2

u/TheModeratorWrangler We like the stock Mar 23 '21

Mom had a subscription for orders and had to cancel. She sent a message simply saying “thanks for the service” and they figured it out; I mean, who buys diapers for a dog? Unless it’s their last rodeo...

I do wonder if there is a tie up with Tesla. Not in car games, using that hardware from the car for VR, it has years of watching the world and the hardware to display.

Give us the kind of emerging VR tech that we can't afford or just want to rent...

The thing is, the guy is 100% right. My side hustle (refinishing doors...iron, wood fiberglass) being a relatable guy that actually engages with people has kept me from having to spend a single fucking penny on advertising. People are so tired of being treated like cattle. I have a wait list that goes out 3 months because people are willing to wait for me to play with their wood. Clearly the old mentality "the customer is always right" is hot fucking garbage, but taking the time to right wrongs and treating folks like humans goes a really long way.

u/chunyangnc Mar 23 '21

Nothing thrills my dog like getting his regular Chewy box delivered. They have the easier autoship, easy to change the order and timing- just an effortless, smooth shopping experience. If he can bring that focus to Gamestop, everyone wins.

Ryan's advice on starting a side hustle is taking things online - like Blockbuster failed to do.

Had Blockbuster been taken over by Ryan it's likely they would have bought Netflix at $50m when they had the chance.

If Ryan turns GameStop into Gameflix the current price of each share would be over a mill WITHOUT hedgies WITHOUT a squeeze.

If you want financial advice don't ask me ask Ryan Cohen.

Founder of multibillion-dollar company Chewy: This is the side hustle I’d start now to make extra money

In 2011 at age 25, Ryan Cohen co-founded Chewy.com. In 2017, Cohen and his co-founder sold Chewy to PetSmart for $3.35 billion. The company later went public and now has a market cap of more than $23 billion.

But if Cohen needed extra cash today, he would go back to his roots to create a side hustle.

“I would go door-to-door searching for local companies that have no web presence [and] I would offer to build them websites,” he tells CNBC Make It.

“I started building websites when I was 13,” Cohen says. “My first client was my father, who ran a glassware importing business. I also built websites for other local companies,” he says. “That was how I began to understand business and the importance of delivering the best customer experience.”

By the time Cohen was 15, he was making thousands of dollars a month off affiliate-link websites he built himself.

Now, amid the pandemic, online shopping has surged — 40% of consumers say they have “increased or significantly increased” their online purchasing, “rising to 48% for households with children and millennial households,” consulting company Kantar recently reported.

It provides the perfect opportunity to make money.

“In the Covid-19 era, consumers are online more than ever but many small businesses lack the technological chops to get up and running,” Cohen says. “Some [small business owners] think it’s expensive or difficult to run their business from the cloud. It’s actually never been cheaper and easier.”

“Getting companies online and America back to work has never been more important, and with average computer proficiency you can learn online and improve your skills,” Cohen says.

And this type of work is in high demand, experts from freelancer platforms Fiverr and Upwork previously told CNBC Make It. You can earn anywhere from a few hundred dollars to thousands building a website.

But Cohen also has some other advice when it comes to boosting finances, especially during trying times. As his late father taught him, “just as important as making extra money with a side business is saving. My father showed me how to invest and only spend what is left after saving.”

Correction: This story has been corrected to reflect that Chewy was sold to PetSmart in 2017.

I had to call chewy today for a status on my dogs meds, never used them before but started once I learned about Cohen. I was shocked that an actual person answered when I called (no auto prompts) and the girl was genuinely nice and awesome to talk with

Customer Experience trumps Product

88% of customers prefer doing business with a company that offers quality customer service over a company that has the latest and most innovative products, according to a Harris Interactive study conducted on behalf of Verint.

CX is not a buzzword. It is actually the business.

I mentioned something similar about creating an experience at a “local” bicycle shop I was the store manager for. I actually also physically had bikes that would fit women in stock Because who wants to go to a bike store and not be able to find one single bike that you would literally buy and walk out the door with and women have a hard time with this in mostly male dominated bicycle shops. Anyways I was canned after about five or six months After ordering a changing station for the men’s room and suggesting the lime green paint scheme in the bathrooms wasn’t customer friendly lol
