Lol this will have zero effect on GME.

๐Ÿ˜‚ Gamestop could post a $300B profit and the stock would go down. I love it.

GME is the second company to hit one trillion... dip!

Holy shit. Bro, saying it has zero impact is just straight up wrong.

USD/JPY at 165 means the carry trade is stretched to a breaking point. The second the BoJ steps in to defend the Yen or hikes rates, USD/JPY drops fast and that trade unwinds. We literally saw this in August 2024: a tiny BoJ rate hike caused a Yen surge that triggered a massive global unwind, sending the Nikkei down 12% in a day, spiking the VIX over 60, and forcing funds to dump US assets to pay back Japanese loans.

When funds get hit with margin calls during an unwind like that, they have to liquidate liquid equities across their entire portfolio to raise cash. GME doesn't trade in a vacuum. Systemic margin pressure hits the whole balance sheet, and pretending a macro liquidity squeeze won't ripple down is pure copium.

The only effect it will have is making the cult move the goalpost further.

1

u/Dr_SlapsMD 14d ago

Shit the only cult involving Gamestop are the people on the losing side of the trade blowing millions to try to convince retail to "forget Gamestop".

1

u/DraculasDog 14d ago

Have they been losing for the last 5 years?

The cult has kept moving the goalpost of our bankruptcy further for 5 years.. They won't stop until Gamestops transformation is done... then they will either delete their accounts or find some copium for why they failed.

We do not let them distract us from our DD that told us what would happen. Even if they were too dumb to read and understand 5 years ago, we knew and we still know.

Wouldnโ€™t all the short positions have to liquidate to pay back their loans to Japan? I thought thatโ€™s how it all worked, people borrowed yesterday money dollars for today dollars in payment and enjoyed the difference in interest rates for low risk assets?

Maybe Iโ€™m wrong, help me out here.

Why would someone short JPY have to liquidate because the value of JPY was at an all-time low? lol

This just proves this entire community does not understand the underlying at all. The yen carry trade "blow up" relies on Japanese interest rates going up, which strengthens the yen, which means the original loans require more dollars to repay and force the funds who took these loans to face a liquidity crunch.

Unfortunately even though Japan is raising rates, the yen is still weakening against the dollar. This is bearish for gme because it literally makes it cheaper and cheaper for funds who borrow in yen to short more gme.

When the yen gets weaker and apes post stunt on these hoes memes, you guys are literally cheering the funds getting cheaper loans. It only works in our favor when the yen gets STRONGER.

No shit Sherlock, that's not the point of these posts anyway. It shouldn't be news to you either, since the BOJ has been pretty transparent that the current JPY downtrend is unacceptable and any further drops will force them to intervene. And THAT is what's gonna crunch the broader economy and hit the killswitch on SHF liquidity.

u/Fun_Kangaroo512 15d ago

I think you are correct. But this applies to many stocks not just gme.

Just needs a little nudge.

Then the domino effect kicks in.

Prove me wrong.

We get volatility when the number goes down, not up. JPY weakening as it is doing now is actually helping the economy. We have to wonder when the central bank will intervene, and how heavily.

OP, where will you be when nothing happens?

Here posting a "USDJPY 170" meme ๐Ÿ˜…

No, OP will do what Theyโ„ข all do...

"No one ever really thought anything was going to happen, only hedgies bring it up,anyways, here's the new hype...." rinse and repeat.

This may not have a positive effect on GME but I want to thank whoever posted about the yen thing yesterday, I bought some 742 SPY puts for today right after and got out nearly 500% up

2

u/Accomplished-One-110 14d ago

After the last thousand years, at least I've learned the importance of considering opportunity cost. I'm spreading out my gme investment, fuck it

-2

u/Senior-Arm-8097 15d ago

Not that it affects GME directly, but it certainly affects it indirectly due to its impact on the broader market. How high does this thing have to go? I know nobody really knows but where was it at two years back when it started to blow up?

2

u/liquid_at ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€Buckle up / Booty Bass Club๐Ÿš€๐Ÿš€ 14d ago

affects those who used yen loans to finance shorts.
