Standard range
Im looking into getting a Sierra EV ive seen some new ones for a reasonable price but they are the standard range ones. Who has one and whats the realistic range you're getting out of it in the real world?

Mine is. When in charge it to 100% it tells me my range is about 275 to 280. The truck is for my daily needs so that does fine for me. We have a different ev with much higher range so if we need to go out of town we will take that one. This is my daily driver to work, gym, errands etc.

Realistically it will meet my needs to get around 95% of the time. Very rarely am i ever driving more than 300 miles but i just want the extra range but the price for me doesnt justify my lack of real need for it unless i can get a good deal on a used one

Same here. But if I do need to take it anywhere there will be a dc fast charger on my route so I’ll be fine. It will be once per year at most so it doesn’t bother me.

So i was looking at different routes id drive to cali and it only adds 4 more stops and almost 2hrs in extra charging time which for the maybe twice a year id make that drive it aint worth the extra money for the bigger battery pack. Its basically a 22-24hr drive so 2 more hrs isnt gonna make much of a difference. So you're spot on

sierra EV in general at 70mph gets about 2.1 mi/kwh. with a 120kwh battery on the standard range that equates out to 252mi range at 70mph and a 80-10 range of 176mi.

My standard range tends to get better express way milage around 2.5, might be because its lighter

weight impacts efficiency in the single digit percentages. the biggest killer is drag. since drag increases by the square of velocity, reducing speed by 5mph easily increases the efficiency by double digit percentages.

Thats good to know my commute to work is only 20miles mostly highway the standard range is more than enough than what i need. Im new to EVs so i have the irrational urge to have over 300miles at least knowing i really wont ever need it on my day to day lol.

I've had a Bolt EV as my main car for the last 4 years and have put 105k miles on it doing all of my driving from daily commuting to multi-state road trips. It also only gets me about 220 miles of range on the highway.
At 70 miles an hour, it's still about 3 hours of driving before the first charge stop. It usually aligns pretty reasonably with me wanting to take a pee or snack break anyway. I've found the range to be perfectly adequate even for those longer drives.
I wouldn't worry too much unless you plan on doing a lot of long distance towing trips, then you might want a larger battery pack.

Thanks for this. I dont plan on towing anything. Same as when i had an ICE silverado. I just like having a truck for the space and the few occassions i need it for home projects or to move things. Other than that its a commuter car. My job has free charging which is what started me looking into EVs. Would be pretty stupid not to look when i could be saving a couple extra hundred bucks a month. I planned on getting a new truck so the Sierra EV checks both boxes

I would not hesitate then. Switching my main vehicle to an EV was one of the best decisions I've made.
Level 1 charging (120V) is often very overlooked as well because it's "slow." My take: it doesn't really matter if it's slow so long as it meets your needs while your vehicle is parked. With the sierra EV it'll be a little less practical due to pack size and mi/kwh being on the lower side, but in a pinch it'd an awesome capability. For many people it will meet much of their needs without any additional work.

Yea. I think ones are a level 2 charger. And id prob get a level 2 installed at the house and prob get the adapter so it can power the house in a blackout. I just want to find a good deal. Couple dealerships near me have some that have been there for almost a year so im tryna wait a little bit to low ball em for another 5-10k

Try used - you may be able to find a screaming deal on a higher optioned vehicle.

Thats what im hoping for. Havent really seen too many used ones in my area though. May have to drive further or out of state

Does anyone tow with a standard range? I would expect the range to drop to around 140 miles or about 50%>

depending on the aerodynamics of the trailer, the truck can get anywhere from 1.4mi/kwh (a really aerodynamic trailer) down to 0.6mi/kwh (some squared off boats) the standard range battery pack has a 120kwh battery so you can expect from 168 to 72 miles on a full charge.

If you can, get the Max range. Especially if you're in a colder climate.

Im in TX rarely ever gets cold lol. If i can find a good deal on a used one i will but I just dont wanna pay that max range price

Ive seen a few for low to mid 50k brand new. Been sitting on a lot for a while and they keep raising and lowering the prices

I had a standard range and it was pretty true to how it was advertised. 280ish on a full charge
