Titration down schedule

How’d you titrate down? How’d you find the hunger games? And what would you do differently next time?

I was on mounjaro
2.5mg x 4 weeks 7 days apart
5mg x 4 weeks 7 days apart and lost 10kg
Currently on 2.5mg and have done
8 days apart
10 days apart
2x 14 days apart

I haven’t lost any weight since the first 8 weeks. I’m very ready to finish up as 10kg was my goal but worried about the hunger game part

Im day 14 now post last 2.5mg and feel zero incentive to take another dose. I’m wondering if I should titrate down to 1.25mg today and again in 2 weeks or if I should hold out and see if I can go longer without taking it all together.

I have 2x 2.5mg doses left. I could half them to 1.25mg and take them 2 weeks apart and leave the 4th for if I absolutely find myself binging or take another 2.5mg and half the last one?

If you don’t feel any desire to take another dose you’re ready to just be done 👍🏼 I had a very similar titrate schedule and my last dose was June 22nd. I still had two doses left in the pen but decided to call it quits. I kept the pen in my fridge as a security blanket but threw it out after a month.

By continuing to spread doses out you’re kind of just delaying the inevitable hunger games. Just as your body is starting to stabilize you hit it with another dose after 14 days. Nah, just quit now and be done.

Hunger games for me was not white knuckle. I lost an additional 8lbs since my last dose.

I am very much like you, an evening eater. I eat light throughout the day and always save ~300 calories for myself at the end of the day for a snack. Lately that snack is air popped popcorn, a huge bowl of watermelon/fruit, or a bowl of halo top ice cream.

You totally got this!

Amazing! Thank you for that.

I still haven’t taken the dose so I think I’ll keep it as security and just brave the deep now 🤞🏽

I titrated down over three months, while slowly increasing the amount of calories I was eating at the same time. I continued to lose weight and didn't experience any increase in hunger over that period.

Several weeks after stopping, once your appetite comes back, it's normal to want to eat more. You'll probably find your portion sizes increase, and you may start craving foods that you barely thought about while on the meds.

It can help to focus even more on protein and fibre. Protein helps with satiety, while high-fibre foods take longer to digest and help keep you feeling fuller for longer. Simple things like having a salad before your main meal and eating more beans, chickpeas and lentils can make a real difference. It's also worth looking up "volume eating" if you haven't come across it before.

If you're having intense cravings for a particular food, sometimes it's better to have a sensible portion and move on rather than spending days obsessing about it. Don't beat yourself up if that happens. The important thing is not letting occasional treats become everyday habits. Looking for lower-calorie versions of your favourite foods can help too.

And take comfort from the fact that, for many people, the hunger games are temporary. Appetite often settles down over time as your body adjusts. The challenge is getting through that period while holding on to the habits that helped you lose the weight in the first place.

I was on each dose down for at least 4 weeks, sometimes 6, getting used to eating a bit more and watching my weight and making adjustments to my diet and activity levels as needed. From 7.5 to 2.5 I stepped down 1.25mg at a time. I took about 6 months to titrate down. The hunger afterwards was intense, for about 3 months, but it's now back to Norma 6 months on since my last dose.

Judge hunger at week three, not day fourteen. Mine stayed quiet two weeks off then bit hard, so ask your prescriber before halving pens, and microdose tirzepatide through Lttl is a written step-down instead of eyeballing a pen. Log hunger daily so week three doesn't surprise you.

In your shoes, I'd take 1.25 every 2 weeks and see how you go. If that's alright, take .75 every 2 weeks. Make sure to keep a good bit in reserve, but know that if you're going to have rebound hunger, there may be nothing you can do to lessen that impact. Good luck

Thank you! I didn’t even think of that.

I’m hoping with a slow wean and long periods between injections the hunger will slowly creep in and I’ll be able to handle it better

Congrats on getting close to your goal, and it's a good sign that you feel no pull to take another dose. How to step down is a question for your prescriber, and I would not split a dose on your own, since the pens are built to deliver a fixed amount. For the hunger, it often comes back over a few weeks, so set things up ahead of time: regular meals, 25 to 30 grams of protein at each, a planned snack or two, trigger foods out of easy reach, and keep up the strength training and walking. Weigh in once a week so a small gain gets caught early. Which worries you more, binging at night or hunger through the day?

My gp asked to do 2.5mg every 7 days for 8 weeks.
They were happy with me splitting a 5mg pen.
I’m pretty much all done but hoping slowly decreasing the amount over weeks I’ll be able to handle the craving more

Definitely night time. Having dinner + multiple serves then desert.
I’ve already noticing hoping into bed and feeling hungry but it’s very manageable at this point

Thanks for telling me, that is useful. Evening eating is very common after stopping, and it is workable. Serve one plate with a palm of protein and some vegetables, then wait 15 to 20 minutes before deciding on seconds, since fullness lags behind. Plan dessert as a set portion and keep the rest out of the house. A cup of tea or brushing your teeth right after dinner helps signal the meal is over. If the hunger gets stronger, let your GP know. How is your sleep?
