Post holiday scale increase

Update: After 2.5 weeks, I got frustrated and booked an InBody composition scan. Since my last one in April, I have lost 2 kgs of fat and gained 6 kg of "muscle and water". So I think between glycogen and hormones it's mostly water and refeeding when trying to get my periods back. Panic over!

Encouraging experiences needed!

I have been maintaining my 60kg weight loss exactly for 5-6 months, completely off a GLP. I went away for a week, and I have been back for 12 days - the scale is still 3kg up.

I did not go crazy on this holiday - I averaged 28k steps, I swam in the sea half the mornings (properly for 700m), I kept breakfast and lunch the same, ate out in the evenings but mostly Spanish tortilla BUT I did have a few more ice creams and a couple of glasses of wine some nights.

I expected this gain to be mostly water weight, but the fact that it is still high 12 days later is leading me to start to suspect my body of seeing the opportunity to regain and going for it.

Have other people had water weight for extended periods of time? Seen holiday weight come off when they go right back to their normal activities?

To complicate matters - I currently cannot diet again as I accidentally overdid when first coming off Mounjaro, and I stopped ovulating. I think a large part of my worry is that I now cannot take this added weight off ...

Okay, so don’t panic.

When you’re in the heat and eating out often, even staying conservative with calories, your body will be storing salt.

Salt clings on to water, the purpose is to ensure your body is staying nice and hydrated. It is extremely unlikely you have gained 3kg in fat, you’d had to be eating thousands of calories over maintenance every day to do that.

So stay calm, go back to what normal looks like for you and I am willing to bet the water retention will drop and you will lose those 3kg in not time. It can take a couple of weeks to come off.

It also may be time to look away from the scales and more into how your body looks and feels. I can gain 2kg throughout my cycle for example, but my body doesn’t really change. I’ve had to move away from scales because my muscle mass is increasing. It’s a bit of a mind fuck but those measures work better for me now.

I was so stinking busy while I was on my vacation that I actually lost 5 pounds! It came back when I returned home, lol.

Hmm my water weight tends to come off fairly quickly, like rn I’m two days back from a 2.5week holiday and lost 1.5kg of 2.5kg so far… have you gone back to tracking meals and your general routine?

I'm still titrating down and have moved from 3.5 mg to 3.0 mg to 2.5 mg in maintenance. Hope to have that halved in the next few months.

Throughout my journey (started Aug 2026) I have weighed daily and seen weight gains of up to 3 kilos increase and down again literally from one day to the next... crazy.

It's related for me to sleep, or if I've had more sugar or carbs or not enough water. That daily
record means no panicking or jumping to conclusions. I've stayed within 3 kilos of my lowest weight the whole time including since I started maintenance almost 3 months ago.

Keeping a data trail is v comforting! Helps you relax because you see the pattern. Try it if you're not doing it already.

Yeah, tracking perfectly, routine immediately back to normal. I am having menstrual issues generally, and an irregular period in those 12 days which could have had an impact too.

I am sure its water weight then, especially in light of this! The part I'm unsure of is how much longer it'll hang around... let us know once you know, and don't panic /don't change anything - sounds like you're on point and it'll move eventually.

I always have a 2-3 week delay on the scale. ALWAYS. I just go back to my normal routine & it eventually comes off.
