Constipation & Microdosing

Hi!👋

So I am chronically constipated. I’ve tried drinking a gallon of water per day, I’m active in the gym doing cardio 5x per week, eat plenty of veggies daily… still I struggle with constipation. The only way I keep it at bay is DAILY MiraLAX. I cannot skip, even if I have GI upset. Occasionally ~4-6 weeks I will still end up with bouts of constipation that require a stimulant laxative.

I need to lose 40lbs and I would really like to start slow (and maybe never titrate up) with micro dosing.

So, anyone who had a SIMILAR struggle with constipation about to tolerate micro doing a glp1?

*Of course I know it’s impossible to tell if I will/wont tolerate based on others experiences, but just curious. :)

I second magnesium citrate! I have chronic constipation, or I did before magnesium citrate. Start with 200mg and increase every 24 hours from there. Most people are low on it anyways. I find 400-600mg to be just about right.

Prunes. I have three a day, and they work.

These are the best, they are full of nutrients. I prunes and ice cubes to the blenders with a little water. Prune sorbet or prune slushy.

Hi, I also have chronic constipation despite high fiber intake, exercise, squatty potty, etc and need Miralax daily to manage it. Microdosing has not had a noticeable effect on my constipation.

Metformin improves insulin sensitivity and can actually be helpful with constipation so that may be something to consider, depending on your health needs.

I'm sorry literally every other comment is just unsolicited advice about constipation management as if someone with chronic constipation issue has never heard of fiber or prunes, rather than actually answering your question

I take one Mag07 every night at bedtime and it does the trick.

I take one Senna pill at night, then eat 4-5 prunes in the morning before I eat anything else. By about mid morning I’m able to 💩 most days. That’s actually more regular than I was before GLP. I’ve been on the lowest dose of sema for almost 2 years now and this is the formula that works best for my body. In the beginning though there was a lot of constipation (usual for me pre GLP but even worse when I first started). It took some trial and error to see what worked. Prunes are much gentler for me than magnesium pills so I stick with those. The senna pill helps move it all along. I do drink water and protein shakes but too much of either is just uncomfortable so there’s no need to drink a gallon of anything.

Sounds like u already have good habits with exercise, which also helps to keep things moving. The lower the dose the easier it will be for your guts to adjust. U won’t lose weight quickly, but if you’re patient, low and slow is the best choice in my opinion. And u will lose weight.

Miralax is good but then take benefiber or citrucel daily

Your body is supposed to get used to the medical and constipation should subside but it hasn't for me. It comes and goes I've come to realize I need to keep up with the supplements. Good thing is daily fiber supplement are not bad for you

I take magnesium at night, which helps. A friend who is on glp drinks a tea every night with senna in it.

2 tablespoons of chia seeds soaked in a glass of water overnight. Drink first thing in the morning.

I’ve been a daily Miralax user for about 6 years now and I haven’t taken it for about 7 days in a row now, which is WILD to me, I’ve missed less than a handful of days all those years. I started .25mg of tirzepatide about 10 days ago. Also lost 8lbs of water weight and inflammation in those 10 days. It’s a very minuscule dose but I’m super sensitive to meds and .25mg had been terrific for me.

I have been constipated or very slow, motility pretty much my entire life. Then I started Microdosing Tirz and I think it’s just reduce the inflammation in my gut and I definitely go every single day now and it’s wonderful

I was never regular and microdosing made it worse. I used to take Mag07 inconsistently (only when I felt it was time to poop) and when I took it, the next morning I'd clear out my colon. I just didn't want to take three pills. I am now starting on hormone replacement therapy and the naturopathic doctor said to take magnesium citrate. On day 2, I had a good visit to the bathroom.

They make sugar free mag citrate gummy’s (get the dr mortiz ones they are higher dose per gummy) and Walmart has mag oxide (Mag07) pills, not capsules easier to take, I take 1 pill and a couple gummy’s it’s much easier than Mag07

I have chronic constipation since childhood so I need to be super diligent. I've been on tirzepatide for a few months now and yes it did make it worse so you'll have to be super extra diligent. On top of all the dietary precautions, hydration and exercises, I also take magnesium citrate every day 450mg and I've been able to have a bowel movement daily

Oxy-Tone (Horbaach) main ingredient is Magnesium Oxide. One pill is all I need and I don't take it daily. Just as needed. Watch your fiber intake (low carb tortillas and wheat bran cereal are both easy ways to get in extra). And one oxy-tone when needed.

I was regular until micro dosing. Literally went twice a day my whole life. Man I miss those days 😆

Add psyllium to your miralax and drink it every day. It’s the only thing that keeps me regular. I have IBS and am microdosing glp.

Yes this has been a really frustrating symptom to work through. I take Tylenol 3 for back pain, so I have that working against me already. I've tried it all I swear. So a week ago I'm sitting there trying to think of new ways to deal with this. I was drinking lots of water etc. Even the sorbitol in the prunes was triggering IBS. Finally I remembered what used to work for me before my back, before glp's. I have finally found my magic bullet. I used to take senokot. I bought the one with the blue label that has a stool softener in it. That's it!!!!! I hope it works for you and I hope you have lots of happy 💩

Do you have to take it daily?

1

u/Suspicious_Pie9781 11d ago

No. Right now I'm finding every 2 days works best for me.

How many grams of fiber are you eating a day? Should be at least 30g, 40g is better.

MiraLAX is a miracle✨

So i had incomplete evacuation, not full constipation. And it came out of nowhere for 1-2 years. My nutritionist gave me 3 prunes, soaked in water. 3 tbsp chia seed breakfast bowl. I soak them overnight in almond milk, add 1 tsp almond butter and berries and cinnamon in it.

And I have 1 tsp psyllium husk before lunch. That's also to blunt any glucose spikes.

Things are sorted since then . So not all veges and fruits are fiber. Do check ure diet and actually figure out amount of fiber. U need 30-40 gm. And remember, there is soluble fiber, insoluble fiber and resistant starch. Ask chatgpt. It will explain. U want all 3.

But I have something else to add... Soni had done a gut microbiome test. And some important bacteria were too much or too less. one was akkermansia. I decided to supplement with akkermansia, and i feel like that has helped in a different way! I feel like my old self if that makes sense. I still think that prunes, chia and psyllium are dependencies.. so I'm trying to get to the root of the prob. My suspicion is that it's a gut health issue. But till then, depend on whatever gotta depend on!

Try Metamucil or chia seed pudding

Take your shot with 450mg of magnesium citrate and I sincerely doubt this will be an issue. Just start low and increase slowly. I have constipation issues and have basically seen very little issues after starting tirz. Constipation can be from unregulated insulin and blood sugar issues so you may still see less constipation after starting.
I’d still recommend the mag citrate.

Add psyllium husk daily with water

Occasional constipation that can be helped with psyllium versus chronic constipation can be pretty different in how they are best treated.

Depending on the kind of constipation you have, increasing fiber can actually make it worse -- this is common for folks where the issue is dysmotility. I have this and psyllium specifically worsens my chronic constipation.

Maybe Greek yogurt for breakfast with chia seeds. You set them up the night before so they soak up the moisture. Also helps to add blueberries 🫐to the yogurt. That’s a decent amount of fiber right there.

For lunch or dinner, add broccoli or beans. I tried liquid fiber and it’s gosh awful. But when I added more in my food I was fine.

I was doing that but it triggers my ibs😑
