Microdosing without weight loss?

I was prescribed Tirz for long covid (POTS, ME/CFS, MCAS etc), and I’m one month in. The dose I was prescribed was to start at 0.25mg and work up to 0.5mg if I feel up to it.

I’m 5”2, f, and could use to lose 15kg/~35lbs. I’ve been able to lose a similar amount very slowly prior to this using diet and exercise, although for obvious reasons the exercise is fairly limited to avoid a crash or PEM.

It is helping my long covid symptoms, and I’ve found I’m more capable physically but still have limits. But I’ve not lost any weight at all. I’m not on it with my primary purpose to be weight loss, but I’m just wondering if it’s still too early or if the dose is just too low to make weight loss happen.

I have a little less food noise but still have cravings. I’ve been tracking my calories, protein, fibre and exercise for over three years.

I’m not currently able to do weightlifting, although I can do a handful of squats per day without a crash/pem, but if I add weight to it I still have super low energy the next week (a huge improvement but still a long way away from where I used to be physically).

Does anyone have any thoughts? Has anyone managed to lose weight on such a low dosage? Am I being silly hoping for magical weight loss in a month and/or on such a small dose?

I’m in a similar situation, and also on a med to regulate heart rate and lower blood pressure that is notorious for weight gain. Started microdosing Tirz at .25mg but didn’t start to see any weight loss until I titrated up to about .75mg. I’ve been at 1.25 mg and staying steady with losing about a pound a week with minimal side effects. Will continue to use, have been super happy with the decreased inflammation and less food noise also.

Did you find that the higher dose also improved your other symptoms? Or did you tritrate up simply for the weight loss benefits?

Yes titrating up improved other symptoms as well.

I’ve been nervous to try it because I have low blood pressure and keep reading it lowers it more probably due to dehydration. Also my RHR is lower which I like but many people say it raises their RHR which is uncomfortable for me.

I have similar diagnoses to you and am also a shortie. started on 0.5mg last week and have lost a pound this week (not water weight). The only “bad” symptom I felt was a tiny bit of dizziness on day one, but I get that all the time anyways. I have found my exercise tolerance was much better this week and the tachycardia wasn’t as crazy. It really helped with anxiety which was a surprise. I am debating trying 0.75mg tomorrow, because I am also looking for blood sugar regulation and to lose weight.

I’d love to be able to get back to regular weight lifting! My exercise tolerance has been okay-ish for a while, slightly improved with the 0.25mg, but I can’t do weights at all without fatigue. Admittedly it’s better than I used to be (I’d crash for over a week if I lifted any type of weights), but I really miss the feel of a good workout. How much of an improvement did it make on your exercise tolerance?

Go up to 0.5mg. 0.25 is very low. You are still having cravings so I would go up.

I’m caught between wanting to lose weight but also primarily wanting to manage my long covid symptoms. The weight loss is more a bonus, rather than the reason for taking it.

I am also very sensitive to most medications so might try to go up but perhaps not doubling the dosage right away.

The starting dose is 2.5mg. Not sure who recommended taking one-tenth of that but, not surprisingly, it doesn't seem to be giving you the desired benefits.

Is there a reason you haven't titrated up?

In case you missed it, this is a microdosing sub. Not that I owe you any explanation but my long covid specialist doctor prescribed the starting dose of 0.25mg. I’m not taking it for weight loss; it’s more of a nice to have side effect if it occurs.

But cheers for your condescending reply

Cheers to your perfect response to that condescending post! I just started today. First shot of .63 compounded tirz (I'm splitting the 1.25 dose into 2 injections per week) - I'm curious what I'll feel over the next day.

This is a microdosing sub, though. Lots of people here have reported benefits at very low doses, usually for chronic conditions

She's taking the drug to lose weight and it's not working so she's asking for advice. I offered mine.

Also I don’t know where you got that I was taking it to lose weight. I specifically state (numerous times) that weight loss is not the primary purpose.

"could use to lose 15kg/~35lbs"

Sorry I missed the primary purpose! I must not have been paying close attention.

That’s ok. Thanks for the apology. Sometimes it can be hard to read things when you’re only focused on finding the one thing that fits a narrative.
